The solvent extraction of gold cyanide from alkaline cyanide solutions with monosubstituted guanidines, bis disubstituted guanidines and a tetrasubstituted guanidine was investigated. The guanidine functional group is protonated in alkaline solution and the guanidinium cation is stabilized so that the aurocyanide anion can be extracted even at -pH 12 if an appropriate carrier is used. Typical aprotic carriers including both aliphatic and aromatic solvents limit gold extraction by guanidines to pH 10; whereas the presence of an alcohol extends gold extraction to pH 12. UV spectroscopy suggests that the alcohol facilitates protonation of the guanidines, stabilizes the guanidinium cation, and facilitates gold extraction at high pH.

Geotechnical properties of the ore, can and will affect how well an ore leaches, the solution recovery, stability of the heap, and settlement. As a heap is stacked some of these properties will change due to the increased load. In order to properly design a heap these properties should be determined beforehand so that the heap performs as intended.

"The Doha Metro Project is one of the most relevant ongoing tunneling projects. The whole project consists of about 100 km of tunnels with 21 EPB TBMs working in the same period. Due to the variability of the geological formations, the soil conditioning is a relevant aspect of this project because the parameters should be frequently adjusted to achieve the best performances of the TBMs. The study of the soil conditioning has been carried out accurately to obtain the best results on site. The study of the geotechnical data, the choice of the most suitable foaming agents and polymers and the laboratory study of the soil conditioning has been a fundamental part of the job. The application of the soil conditioning products on site with the analysis of the TBM data have confirmed the preliminary study results with some correlation between the features of the ground and the soil conditioning parameters to be used. INTRODUCTION Phase 1 of the Doha Metro Underground project is composed by 3 lines able to bring passengers to all the points of interest in the Qatar capital city. The Red Line, also called coastal line, connects the north of the city to the south, and to the new Hamad International Airport, following the coast line. The Golden Line, called Historic Line, will connect the southern area of Doha to the “Aspire zone” the area of the city where many state of the art sport centers are located, passing through the old city center. The Green Line, named education line, will connect the old city center to the Doha Education City. All the lines are realized with 2 tubes, single track. The whole underground project is realized with 21 TBMs, excavation diameter of 7.10 m. The project has been divided in 4 packages, for a total excavation length of more than 100 km. The need to underpass roads, existing buildings, and to excavate, in some areas, at less than 100 m from the coast line, forced the choice of a tunneling system with Earth Pressure Balance (EPB), that involves in the project another fundamental aspect of this tunneling system: the soil conditioning. The soil conditioning has multiples functions in the EPB system such as to make the soil suitable to properly apply the pressure on the tunnel face and to be extracted effectively with the screw conveyor. To properly study this topic it was necessary to study the geological formations to be excavated, the hydrogeological conditions of the underground, the foam injection systems of the EPB TBMs and to perform specific tests to evaluate a suitable conditioning to be verified and adjusted during the real scale application."

The response of 174 domestic water supplies to longwall mining of the Pittsburgh coal seam was compared to various physical parameters. Sixty-four percent of domestic water supplies returned to service without the need for intervention, while thirty six percent required intervention to reestablish a suitable water supply. Domestic well response is strongly correlated with the topographic setting. Valley wells showed the least effect while hilltop wells showed the greatest effect. Well response was also found to be correlated to the location of the well above the mining with greater effects observed in zones of surface tension and compression, and fewer effects in zones which are stress neutral. Ground water supplies remained unaffected or were re¬established at 149 of 150 sites, indicating that ground water resources remain available to domestic wells after mining. Results of this study support the stress-relief model of ground water flow in the Northern Appalachian Basin. Longwall mining's effect on this system is to locally increase fracture connectivity in the near surface zone. This may shift the zones of saturated fractures to greater depths beneath hilltops and hillsides, and increase recharge and storage in valleys. General trends in well response are predict¬able utilizing the stress relief conceptual model, the topographic setting of the water sources, and their location over the mine.

Tripoli and the related mineral commodities such as micro- crystalline silica have been mined for more than 100 years for their abrasive properties. Although abrasive and buffing compound markets are still very important, within the last 15 years the filler and extender markets in paint, plastics, rubber, adhesives, and sealants have increased substantially. Tripoli or microcrystalline silica consists almost entirely of very small quartz crystals, many less than one micrometer in length. Material mined from different districts differs in crystal shape, grain size, and texture of the rock, all of which influence markets. Most US deposits are now mined by surface methods, and both air floated and micronized products are marketed. Deposits of tripoli now mined in the United States occur in chert-bearing Paleozoic limestone in the central part of the country with producing districts in southern Illinois, central Arkansas, and eastern Oklahoma. Although deposits within each district are confined to specific formations and extend laterally within those formations, individual bodies form minable deposits that are typically several hectares in areal extent. Tripoli is white to cream to rose and characterized by high porosity and ease of disaggregation. DEFINITIONS Tripoli In the United States, tripoli was first used to describe the fine-grained, easily disaggregated material from Seneca, MO, be- cause of its similarity to a rock from the Tripoli region of North Africa (Hovey, 1894). The North African rock is actually diatomaceous earth, a material that is similar in appearance to the rock from Seneca, but is of entirely different origin having formed by the accumulation of siliceous remains of microscopic marine or fresh- water animals. Tripoli is best defined as a very fine-grained, generally porous rock that consists of microcrystalline quartz, typically formed by the alteration of a chert-bearing limestone. Tripolite A term used to describe a rock from the vicinity of Tripoli in North Africa which is diatomaceous earth (Quirk and Bates, 1978) Microcrystalline Silica Microcrystalline silica is the same material as tripoli, but the distinction between the use of these two names is dictated largely by convention and markets. Material produced from southern I1linois deposits and used in white pigment and filler applications is generally referred to as microcrystalline silica, whereas that used in abrasive applications, both from the Illinois district and from other states, is commonly called tripoli. Amorphous Silica Amorphous silica, a term formerly used to describe the material produced from the deposits in southern Illinois, is now replaced by the term microcrystalline silica. Amorphous silica came into use when even optical methods for the identification of very fine- grained quartz were not widely available and the Illinois product, composed of quartz grains too small to be seen with the unaided eye, was thought to consist of amorphous silica. The Illinois material is clearly crystalline quartz, as shown by X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy (Fig. 1). Novaculite Although originally used to describe a rock suitable for the manufacture of whetstones, novaculite is now defined more generally " - as a homogeneous, mostly white or light colored rock, translucent on thin edges, with a waxy or dull luster, and almost entirely composed of microcrystalline quartz" (Steuart et al., 1983). The more compact rock mined in central Arkansas from the Arkansas Novaculite is referred to as novaculite, whereas the more porous rock is referred to as tripoli. Rottenstone The commodity rottenstone is sometimes included within the general mineral commodity category of tripoli. Rottenstone is mined in Northumberland County in eastern Pennsvlvania and formed by the weathering of a siliceous shale of Devonian age (Faill, 1979, Berkheiser, private communication, 1991). This material is used as a filler and extender, but is apparently unlike tripoli both in origin and physical properties. Spiculite Spiculite is a rock consisting of siliceous sponge spicules having formed by the removal by solution of the carbonate matrix of a spicule-bearing limestone. Spiculite has been mined in Texas and, because it resembles tripoli in several aspects, is included in the discussion of deposits.

LKAB owns and operates two of the largest underground mines in the world in Northern Sweden. In Malmberget, with a production capacity of about 30,000 t/day of iron ore, the current main 815 m haulage level is rapidly approaching the end of Its life and plans are being made for its replacement on the 1000 m level. Due to the separation of the orebodies, trucks have been chosen for transporting the ore from the orepasses to the crushers. The trucks currently in use have a capacity of 120 tons. To increase the efficiency of the loaded haul, the new main level will have a favorable slope from the drawpoint locations to the crushers. From the new level the crushed ore will be transported by conveyor to the 815 m level for hoisting to the surface. The paper discusses the planned mining and transportation system.

Conventional triboelectrification based dry coal beneficiation methods require ground coal as a prerequisite feed material, energy intensive static-in-line mixer or cyclonic tribocharger configuration, and transport and/or improvement in the design of free-fall separators to improve the separation efficiency of [me pyrite/mineral matter from coal. The proposed paper illustrates the two concepts. First, the use of ceramic media in a polyurethane lined attitor in achieving simultaneous grinding and differential charging. Second, the use of an electrocentrifuge to selectively separate coal from mineral matter present in the triboelectrified mixture. It is of interest to note that some ceramic media can satisfy the requirements of both desired density and work function to achieve grinding and differential charging.

The possibility of increasing the efficiency of mineral processing plants by means of computer control has prompted metallurgists to examine their flowsheets more critically in order to develop practical control strategies. Control schemes in use to date generally rely on the automation of traditional and previously manually regulated control loops, for instance the addition of reagents to maintain a constant assay or a constant pH. This approach is predicated on the availability of well-established primary sensors such as pH electrodes or on-stream analyzers. Noranda Research Centre, in cooperation with Noranda Group concentrators, has developed a froth level monitor and a pulp density meter susceptible of application in this type of control. Although some of the basic principles on which they are based have been known for some time, their incorporation into the design of reliable, direct-reading instruments which can be interfaced with a computer, is be-lieved to be novel*.

Stone, one of the oldest building materials, today remains a well-established material throughout the construction industry. The use of natural stone is much less prevalent now than in the past. It is still widely considered to be the most aesthetically pleasing, prestigious, and durable building material. New and re-opened quarries are coming onstream to meet increased demand related to new building technology and increased residential use of stone. CLASSIFICATION No classification can completely eliminate overlap between dimension stone, aggregate, and decorative stone because most stone is multi-purpose. Many used for decorative purposes are not produced specifically for that end use. Rock otherwise considered waste in dimension stone or aggregate quarries can be decorative stone coproducts (Fig. 1). Many uses require a compromise between decorative and structural qualities (Bowles, 1992, written commu¬nication). Shipley (1945) used decorative stone interchangeably with or¬namental stone. Gary et al. (1972) defined decorative stone as that used for architectural decoration, such as mantels, columns, and store fronts, but added that it is sometimes set with silver or gold in jewelry as curio stones. Bates and Jackson (1987) also restricted decorative stone to that used for architectural decoration. Meanings of otherwise identical terms used in the stone industry differ be¬tween geologists, engineers, and quarriers. They often carry a much broader meaning for quarriers and engineers compared to their very specific use by geologists (Makens et al., 1972). Decorative stone, including ornamental stone, is more broadly defined by geologists as any stone used primarily for its color, texture, and general appearance. It is not used primarily for its strength or durability, such as construction stone, or in specific sizes, such as dimension stone. The decorative stone industry uses a much wider range of stone types compared to stone that is dimensioned. Decorative stone usually serves some structural pur¬pose, but is not load-bearing to any great extent. Weak or costly stones serve in decorative, not structural, applications. STATISTICS AND END USES Decorative and dimension stone data are difficult to separate because the US Bureau of Mines keeps statistics only on dimension stone and crushed stone. The value of domestic dimension stone production in 1990, which includes some decorative stone, was about $210 million compared to imports of about $524 million and exports of about $35 million. Production was 1 080 t of which at least one-third was for decorative uses (Taylor, 1992). The principal uses are rough blocks in building construction (23%) and monu¬ments (18%); the remainder is used as ashlar (18%), curbing (12%), and miscellaneous (29%). Major rock types are granite (50%), limestone (30%), sandstone (10%), slate (3%), marble (2%), and other (5%) (Harben, 1990). Crushed stone valued at $5.6 billion was produced in the United States in 1990 by 1700 companies operating 3400 active quarries in 48 states (Tepordei, 1991). About 52% is used in con¬struction, 9% in cement and lime manufacturing, 2% in agricul¬ture, 2% in industrial uses, and 35% for unspecified uses including decorative aggregate. Limestone and dolomite comprise about 71%, granite 14%, and traprock 8% of the stone crushed in the United States. The remaining 7% are, in descending quantity, sandstone, quartzite, miscellaneous rock, marble, shell, calcareous marl, volcanic cinder and scoria, and slate. The basic types of decorative stone are: rough stone, aggregate, cut or dressed stone, and manmade stone [(Table 1)]. Rough Stone Rough stone is used as it is found in nature with very limited processing such as minor hand shaping, edge fitting, and size or quality sorting (Perath, 1992, written communication). This stone type is often marketed locally in relatively small tonnages and includes fieldstone and flagstone. The primary end uses of rough stone are landscaping, edging, paving, or large individual stone landscape or interior accents [(Fig. 2)]. Fieldstone: Fieldstone is picked up or pried out of the ground (gleaned) without extensive quarrying and includes garden or large landscaping boulders (Austin et al., 1990, Hansen, 1969). Boulders and cobbles may be split or roughly trimmed for use in rubble walls and veneers, both interior and exterior. Popular fieldstone rock types include sandstone, basalt, limestone, gneiss, schist, quartzite, and granite, but many others are suitable. Much fieldstone is col¬lected by individuals or small companies because the industry is labor intensive and markets are small. The stone may be sold locally in small quantities from the back of vehicles (Austin et al., 1990). Fieldstone includes many rock types, sizes, and shapes with the only common denominator that it must be set by hand and be durable (Power, 1992, written communication). Moss Rock. Moss rock is fieldstone partially covered by algae, mosses, lichens, and fungi that give the rock an aged and variegated patina (Austin et al., 1990). The plants are supported by moisture and nutrients in the stone. Moss rock is used for landscaping, walls, and fireplaces. Although almost any durable rock can be a moss rock, most are slabby or rounded sandstone and limestone (Fig. 3). Flagstone: Flagstone or flagging consist of thin irregular slabs used for paving, walkways, and wall veneers. Random-shaped flagging is produced widely in the United States. Suitable stone

A new process for the recovery of pure (>99.95%) palladium and platinum is described. The process, which has been tested at the pilot scale, comprises (i) the simultaneous solvent extraction of palladium and platinum by a new Schering Berlin reagent, TN 1911, (ii) washing of the loaded extractant to remove co- extracted impurities, and (iii) differential stripping of first platinum at pH 3, and secondly palladium with strong hydrochloric acid, and (iv) precipitation of palladium and platinum salts, followed by reduction to metal. The process is, unusually, a non-ammonia one requiring only small amounts of ammonia at the end where final purification may be necessary for particularly complex feed solutions.

The limitation of sulfur dioxide in power plant emissions dictates that sulfur in coal be reduced to the lowest possible level before combustion so as not to aggravate the emission control problem at the stack. For coal fired power plants, the methods in practice to achieve low sulfur coal include mining areas with relatively low sulfur. reducing sulfur in the mined coal through preparation techniques and blending high and low sulfur coals. A prerequisite to the successful implementation of any of these practices is the knowledge of the spatial distribution and the capability to predict sulfur values in a coal seam.

Autocad has become the standard graphics package for the mining industry as well as the general engineering profession. This paper discusses the evolution that mine planning has undergone and the trend toward compatibility with Autocad. It discusses the common use of Autocad in mine planning and systems modeling using a program called ICAMPS developed by Ohio Automation. As an example of its usefulness the use of the interactive ventilation network modeling capabilities are discussed specifically and are applied to mine planning at an operating trona mine. The ventilation analysis feature of the ICAMPS software works from Autocad drawing of the as-mined map and the projected mine layout. Using on-screen displays of these maps and the snap-on feature of Autocad, the planner designates nodes in the ventilation network, connects them into branches and selects branch characteristics from a side bar menu. The color coded ventilation network appears with the branch parameters alongside each branch. The software calculates the length of airways, computes the branch resistances where needed, converts the input into the required format and passes this information as input data along to the PENNVEN simulation program written by the Pennsylvania state University. Output is available in graphical as well as report format. The color coded graphs include pressures at the nodes and flow quantities on the branches. Since the networks come from the mine maps, the ventilation schematic displays are to scale and can be plotted separately or superimposed on the mine maps.

"Increasing demand and market economics have pushed the mining industry to adopt improved mining practices and minimize losses. Simulation, in this regard, has proved to be an efficient tool to help in decision making purposes. We present the development of a discrete event simulation model for a large-scale open pit mine to run experimental scenarios for near optimal decision making. A mixed integer linear goal programming (MILGP) optimization model is also presented for shovel allocation optimization. The mathematical model will be coupled with the simulation model at the dispatching stage for shovel allocation optimization and thus it will act as the link to optimal short-term schedule to assist in achieving better mine plan compliance across short-term and operational planning time horizons. The main contribution of this work so far is the development of the MILGP model and development, implementation and verification of the simulation model on a large scale oil sands open pit mine case study. The results obtained so far are promising and have been validated against the historical data of the mine, proving the applicability of the model for experimental scenario analysis. INTRODUCTION It is essential for mining operations to adopt efficient operational methods and technologies to cope with market demand and economics. Mining operations, on the other hand, being capital intensive, find it risky to bring in any changes. Simulation is a tool that can help in this regard for better decision making purposes with an improved and quantitative measure of confidence. A true representative model that satisfies the objectives set for the simulation is essential to achieve its applicability for decision making purposes. A similar simulation model is presented in this paper for analyzing the operational KPIs of a large scale oil sand open pit mine with truck-shovel operations. This paper is aimed at providing an overview of the development of the model and the statistical outcomes validating its applicability for experimental scenario runs and thus for better decision making purposes. A mixed integer linear goal programming (MILGP) optimization model is also presented in this paper that acts as an upper stage in a multi-stage dispatching system. The optimization model is proposed to be linked with the dispatching logic in the simulation for optimal shovel assignments and target productions by reading available mining faces directly from the short-term extraction schedule. This model is aimed at bridging the gap between operations and short term extraction schedule; and may help achieve better compliance between the two."

A number of famous studies have shown that house damage relates better to peak particle velocity than to acceleration or displacement. The relationship is true but doesn't go far enough. Why, for example, can construction shots go well above 1.0 or 2.0 inches per second without reportable damage? Recent studies have shown that vie must look at frequency and duration of an event in addition to amplitude. The complexity of measuring frequency, duration, and amplitude makes the average blaster in the field shudder. An even more excruciating problem is the need to obtain such data inside the building or residence in order to accurately predict the damage potential or human response to nearby blasting. The author reviews current research programs and suggests new areas of research necessary to help maintain a balance between complicated research requirements and simple field measurements.

Introduction Heavy media separation (HMS), also called dense media or float¬sink separation, is one of the newer forms of gravity concentration. Though the concept can be traced to the last century, the process has enjoyed its major growth since 1940. Heavy liquid separation is a mutation. The heavy media process is used extensively to clean coal and for the concentration of a wide variety of ores such as those of iron, lead-zinc, chrome, manganese, tin, tungsten, fluorspar, magnesite, sylvite, garnet, diamonds, gravel, etc. It may be used where ever a significant density difference occurs between two minerals, and commercial separations are typically made in the range of 1.3 to 3.8 sp gr. The particle size treated ranges downward from 6-8 in. top size. Particles greater than about 1/16-in. (10 mesh) may be treated in a "static" bath, though for reasons of separation efficiency, + 1/2 -in- feed is usually preferred. For particles less than this size, separation in a heavy media cyclone is generally used. The flowsheet of a typical heavy media process, in this case one using a ferrous medium, is shown in Fig. I. In essence, the process consists of: (1) preparation of the feed usually by wet screening to remove undesired fines, (2) heavy medium separation, and (3) removal and recovery of the medium from the separated products. Many muta¬tions of the basic scheme are possible and numerous options are possi¬ble. HMS offers the following potential advantages:12 1) Ability to make sharp separations. 2) Ability to change the specific gravity of separation quickly to meet changing conditions. 3) Ability to remove products continuously. 4) Ability to treat a broad size range of products. 5) Ease of start-up and shutdown without loss of separating efficiency. 6) Relatively low medium cost and low media losses. 7) Low operating and maintenance costs. 8) High capacity with the use of relatively little floor space. 9) Relatively low capital investment per ton of capacity. The process may be used to produce a finished concentrate, two finished concentrates, or a concentrate and a middling of differing quality, or a preconcentrate by rejection of unwanted gangue. It is an ideal method for the reprocessing of coarse waste dumps. The greatest use for the process lies in coal cleaning and in the preconcentration of ores. The relatively inexpensive heavy media process may be used advantageously to reject large quantities of coarsely crushed gangue. When used in this way, the process will allow: (1) the use of lower cost but less selective mining methods with the "overbreak" material being removed at the front end of the concentrator or preparation plant; (2) a substantial reduction in the quantity of ore that must be finely ground for subsequent mineral liberation and separa¬tion. Since comminution is often the single most expensive step in beneficiation, it is desirable to eliminate as many essentially barren pieces of rock as possible before the grinding step, (3) a decrease in overall plant capital cost per ton of concentrate since the size of the plant from the dense medium step onward will be smaller. Several general references are available,12-18 though much of the technical data on the process is widely scattered in the general litera¬ture. Heavy Liquid Separation Organic Liquids Given sufficient settling time, it is possible to make a perfect separa¬tion between two particles of differing density by placing them in a liquid whose density is intermediate between the two. This means of achieving a perfect separation has proven to be elusive because of problems in feed preparation, particle settling rates, operational considerations, and economic constraints. There are a wide variety of heavy liquids that could be used, most of them halogenated hydrocarbons, and a few typical examples are given in Table 4. These liquids are most commonly used in ore dressing for the laboratory fractionation of ore particles on the basis of specific gravity. Laboratory Separations. Using liquids typified by those given in Table 4, separations are made to develop either the standard washability curves used to estimate the response of a given sample to gravity concentration or to prepare a partition curve to evaluate the effective¬ness of a given gravity separation process or piece of equipment. A typical washability curve is given in Fig. 2.19 Such curves are generated for raw coal, e.g., by treating either the whole or various size fractions of the sample in a series of heavy liquids and analyzing the various specific gravity fractions so produced. The procedure is relatively simple for coal samples because of the ready availability of a wide variety of relatively low cost heavy liquids in the density range 1.2¬-2.0. For ores the problem is much more complicated, because only a few high density liquids, all of rather high cost, are available. Parti¬tion curves are generated in the same manner by treating the separated products in the same liquids. Greater details on the procedures to be used in heavy liquid separa¬tions are to be found in the literature (for coal, Refs. 13, 14 and 19 and for ore, Refs. 20 and 21). For testing coal, calcium and zinc chloride solutions have been used extensively in the past, though today halogenated hydrocarbons (available under the trade name Certigrav) are the preferred media. Project scheduling is a deterministic technique utilizing single estimates of activity durations. In reality, activity durations are stochastic and can be better represented by probability distributions. This paper describes the development and utilization of a project scheduling simulation which combines analytical scheduling with stochastic activity durations. The purpose is to provide a method to analyze the sequencing of mining production processes and predict the effect of any planned changes. The simulation is demonstrated through realistic examples, such as longwall face-to-face transfer sequencing and the effect of varying advance rates on longwall development sections. Statistical data, to make more informed production decisions, are generated in the form of project activity/path criticality and project duration distributions.

Using a fuzzy logic controller, a signal applied on the processes may be generated through a linguistic protocol expressing an operator's intuitive control strategies. In this work, fuzzy logic controller and PID controller imposed upon the feedback liquid level control systems for a stirred tank are studied and compared. The construction factors including the shape of membership functions, number of fuzzy variables, number of inputs, number of rules, and different defuzzification methods are considered in design and formulating the fuzzy logic control strategies and algorithms. From the analysis of the strategies and control performances, an optimum controller may be generated by making use of the best combination of these fuzzy construction factors.

The solvent extraction of vanadium (V) from Na2CO3–NaHCO3 solution was attempted using Aliquat-336 (methyltrioctylammonium chloride) extractant dissolved in sulfonated kerosene as diluent with 2-octanol as phase modifier. The influence factors, such as Na2CO3 concentration, NaHCO3 concentration, temperature, extractant concentration and impurity P, on vanadiumextraction were investigated. The results revealed that the single stage extraction efficiency of vanadium reached above 89%from 20 g/L Na2CO3 – 20 g/L NaHCO3 solution under the following conditions: extractant concentration of 15%, room temperature of 20–30 °C, 2-octanol of 6%, phase ratio (O/A) of 1:1, and oscillation time of 1 min. The addition of NaHCO3 into Na2CO3 solution could lower the pH value of the Na2CO3 solution, improve extraction efficiency of vanadium, and not introduce other impurities. The phosphate anion did not interact with the vanadate anion in the Na2CO3–NaHCO3 solution. The P in the Na2CO3–NaHCO3 solution had little influence on vanadium extraction.

Recovery of iron and copper from acid mine drainage was studied in pilot scale at a continuous treatment plant at the mine site of the King's mine in Roeros, Norway. The average load on the plant was 1 m3/h. The process tested in this project is a three-step process consisting of: 1) Fe(OH)3 precipitation at pH 3.5, dewatering of iron sludge and transport to ferric chloride plant; 2) after filtration precipitation of residual metals at pH 9, concentration of metal sludge by flotation; 3) extraction of metals from the sludge with sulphuric acid followed by recovery of copper by electrolysis. The copper could be used for local production of different crafts, but this condition needs a further evaluation. The process economy at a full scale plant is evaluated.
