Microbial leaching is being investigated as a method for recovering the metal values from a domestic low-grade manganese wad ore. Early work showed that heterotrophic microorganisms present in the ore solubilized manganese when cultured in a glucose-mineral salts medium. More recent shake-flask tests using molasses as the sole nutrient source extracted 97 pct of the manganese from minus 300- µm ore in 4 weeks. Column bioleaching with the molasses medium solubilized 99 pct of the manganese from minus 6.3-mm ore in 50 weeks. The results of flask, column, and lab-scale heap bioleaching studies are presented.

The importance of underground stress instrumentation cannot be minimized. It was Lord Kelvin who said that unless you can assign a number to a quantity,, you know very little about it. Most engineers will agree although this kind of statement is resented by our friends in non-technical fields. Mining is undergoing a revolution from art to science. But how can mining methods be optimized if there is no way of measuring the effectiveness of a given mining method? Do we know how effective a' support is unless we can determine its reaction to the mine structure? How do we assess the need for modifications to existing systems and supports, and how do we measure the effectiveness of such changes? Cut and try techniques are too wasteful of time and energy, and rarely provide solutions to a given problem. The purpose of underground stress instrumentation is to provide answers to some of the above questions -- answers that cannot be obtained otherwise This does not mean that laboratory studies are not valuable -on the contrary. Laboratory and underground studies supplement one another. Rock mechanics had its conception with the study of stresses in homogeneous, isotropic, and elastic models subjected to various force systems. These analyses were valuable inasmuch as they pinpointed possible sources of trouble due to stress concentrations. If the results observed underground did not always agree with the experimental analysis, it was not an indictment of the latter. More probably, the discrepancy could be attributed to the lack of similitude between model and prototype. The more nearly one can simulate underground conditions in a model, the more apt one is to produce results which correlate well-with underground observations. It is impossible to completely simulate underground conditions because all of the significant design parameters have not been recognized and evaluated. What better way can one evaluate these parameters than by underground stress instrumentation?

Iodine, a grayish-black nonmetallic element, with a density of 4.9 g/cm3, is a solid at ordinary temperatures. It is a member of the halogen family, along with fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and astatine. Iodine melts at 114°C. and at 184°C it is volatilized to a blue-violet gas that has an irritating odor. It does not occur as an element in nature, but occurs as iodates, iodides, or other combined forms. It is the 47th most abundant element in the earth's crust. Iodine was discovered by Bernard Courtois in 1811. He observed an unknown substance in the crude soda ash that results from the burning of seaweed. Samples of this unknown substance were identified to be a new element, and in 1813 Gay-Lussac named the substance iode, from the Greek word for violet color. The world production during 1989 and 1990 [(Table 1)] is estimated to be about 16 million kg per year (Lyday, 1991), of which about 30% is consumed in the United States. GEOLOGY AND MINERALOGY Compounds of iodine are minor constituents in seawater and brines, in certain marine organisms, and in minerals of the Chilean nitrate deposits. Seawater contains approximately 0.05 ppm iodine, and certain marine organisms, such as seaweed, sponges, fish, and some brown algae, are able to further concentrate iodine (Lyday, 1989a). Some seaweed can extract and accumulate iodine up to 0.45% of their weight, on a dry basis. The northern Chilean nitrate deposits, in the Atacama Desert, contain the following iodine minerals: lautarite, Ca(I03), (calcium iodate); dietzeite, CaJIO,), (CrO,) (calcium iodate-chromate); and bruggenite, Ca(I03), . H20 (Erickson, 1981). Various subsurface brines also contain iodine compounds. Some gas-field brines in the United States and Japan locally contain 30 to 1 300 ppm iodine. Several coals in Germany also contain iodine compounds. Iodine has been recovered from brines mainly in Japan and the United States, but also in Java, Indonesia, Italy, England, and the former USSR. Iodine has also been recovered from seaweed in Ireland, Scotland, France, Japan, Norway, and the USSR. Seaweed was a major source of iodine for the world in the first half of this century, and it remains as a large resource. The reserves and future resources of iodine are large, even excluding the resources in seaweed and seawater, and are shown in [Table 1]. Analysis Iodine as the free element can be detected by the characteristic blue color it gives to a starch solution. Quantitatively it is determined as the free element by titration with standard thiosulfate solutions using starch as an indicator. Colorimetric methods are also applicable. PRINCIPAL PRODUCING COUNTRIES Major iodine-producing nations are Japan, Chile, the USSR, and the United States, with lesser amounts being produced in China and Indonesia ([Fig. 1; Table 1]). Annual world production in 1989 and 1990, respectively, is estimated at 15.6 and 16 million kg. In Japan and Chile, the production of iodine depends on production of other materials, such as natural gas or nitrates, respectively, whereas in US operations (in Oklahoma) iodine is the major product recovered from natural brines. Chile was for a long time the principal world producer of iodine from its nitrate-fertilizer operations, but in recent years Japan has become the world leader with increased production of natural gas and associated iodine-rich brines.

This paper identifies and formulates the probabilistic nature of underground coal face operations using the Semi-Markovian theory. Through this theory the probability of coal flow from a face is obtained for any given time t of a shift. These probabilities are used for determining the capacity and operating policy of a surge tank located at the shaft bottom.

Merchants perform a number of functions in the copper market. As a major distribution arm of the copper industry, they secure scrap and other copper bearing materials for processing into usable refined shapes. These are ultimately sold to fabricators. Merchants ' hedging and arbitrage activities help keep values in proper relationship from product to product or region to region. Through these switching and trading operations, they optimize the flow of copper from mine to consumer. And finally, merchants act as a repository for copper units during times of surplus and a stockpile from which to draw during tines of shortage.

The adsorption behavior of sodium oleate on brucite, Mg (OH)2, has been studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Both internal reflection and diffuse reflection (DRIFT) methods were used to characterize the adsorbed oleate on brucite. DRIFT measurements were shown to be quantitative, and an equilibrium adsorption isotherm was obtained. The conformational behavior of the adsorbed oleate was investigated as a function of adsorption density. It was found that at sub-monolayer coverage the alkyl chains of the adsorbed oleate had more ?gauche? character than at multi-layer coverages. Also, DRIFT spectra revealed that the adsorbed species were magnesium dioleate. For internal reflection measurements single crystals of MgO were hydrolyzed to form a thin Mg (OH)2 layer.

"INTRODUCTION The characterization of groundwater hydrogeology is a common component in feasibility studies, geotechnical investigations and regulatory permitting for mining operations. The lithology at a location of interest may include several discrete water-bearing units; and the means of isolating each for testing can be accomplished through the use of inflatable packers. Consideration for testing during drilling program planning and communication between all stakeholders is essential to ensure that the Mine, Drilling Contractor and Hydrogeological Testing Specialist (Specialist) are ready to perform packer testing when the call is made to mobilize. Often, the notice to mobilize can be delayed and then occur with little warning due to the issues that can occur during drilling of very deep boreholes, as well as other factors. Hydrogeological investigation reports and journal articles generally discuss testing methods and results, with limited information available describing the planning and coordination of the field testing program, as evidenced by the lack of references cited below. The source of inspiration for the subject matter of this paper is grounded in the author’s past shortsightedness; with the hope that others not share similar misfortunes but experience success through thorough preparation for their future hydrogeological testing programs. The sections below focus on the planning stages of a field investigation using inflatable packers, including considerations for site specific conditions, designation of stakeholder responsibilities, and communication of testing expectations. Following these sections is a presentation of two examples of successful field programs and lessons learned in addressing problems encountered along the way. PRELIMINARY PROGRAM PLANNING & CONSIDERATIONS From the onset of planning for drilling programs, the Specialist should be in communication with the Mine to review plans and identify fatal flaws which could impede collection of hydrogeological data. Preliminary scope decisions can significantly affect the budget and duration of hydrogeological field programs and may dictate the means by which the field data is collected. The issues that need to be considered include the following factors. Testing Objectives The setup of the packer tool is dependent on the testing objectives. Is the goal to estimate bulk aquifer hydraulic conductivity or to identify discrete discontinuity hydraulic characteristics? Are groundwater samples needed? The answers to these questions affect selection of test interval length and what instrumentation might need to piggyback on the packer tool. Identifying the testing goals initially will provide adequate time to prepare packer equipment for mobilization. Borehole Size While inflatable packers come in many shapes and sizes, some sizes are more readily available and easier to procure on short notice. Packers for NQ and HQ size boreholes have been historically easy to procure and are commonly used in exploration drilling. Packer equipment is available for smaller holes, but it becomes more difficult to fit instrumentation down-hole as the borehole size decreases. This is particularly a consideration if collection of groundwater samples is required. In addition, risks of losing the hole or equipment downhole are greater for smaller boreholes. Larger boreholes require larger packers and clearly require more effort and heavier capacity machinery to manually manipulate due to the increased size."

Generally speaking, it is safe to address this conference as a conclave of Engineers, Owners' Agents, Governmental Representatives, and Contractors. As a group, we have assembled here to learn of our compatriots engaged in similiar underground operations throughout the United States and the World. We are here to learn of improved methods, higher technology, and better management. Through the acquisition of this knowledge, we each hope we can improve our own particular services, products and projects. This session is dedicated to a discussion of "Costs". The most apparent reason for a discussion of costs at this level is to expose subjects affecting costs and propose methods to reduce them. From that premise a contractor can identify three areas of discussion: design considerations, contract considerations, and governmental considerations. A fourth area of consideration is an introspective view of the contractor's role in the design construct process. Unnecessary costs and risks attributable to these areas are contributing excessively to ever increasing project and system costs. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS On April 20, 1977 the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago accepted proposals for the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan on Contract A and Contract B. This letting called for construction of over 33 km (21 miles) of the Mainstream Tunnel bored at 9.75 m (32 ft) to 10.67 m (35 ft.) in diameter. Computer use has become an integral part of mine planning at Kennecott Copper Corporation?s Utah Copper Division, Bingham Canyon mine. Engineers are using the computer for development drilling calculations, mineralization grade interpolations, ore value summaries, long-range mining plans and short- range mining plans. The versatility of the computer has made it possible to explore many mining plan variations and to develop plans covering varying time intervals and production rates. This paper will summarize computer use in long-range mine planning, tell how short-range mining plans are prepared by conventional methods and discuss the development and application of short-range mine planning by computer.

In recent years the hue and cry of American industry concerning the pressure of foreign competition on the domestic marketplace has become all too familiar to most of us, as we are all well aware, the steel industry has not been exempted from this pressure, reduced production levels, work force cutbacks, and in some extreme cases, plant closings and company liquidations have resulted, new regulations governing imports and quotas have been enacted, foreign trade agreements reached, and more strict regulation enforcement practices undertaken, despite these, and other measures, the impact of aggressive foreign competition has not lessened, the concensus of numerous management consultants is that in order to successfully cope with these problems we must draw on all available technology to provide the tools which will enable us to enhance our management effectiveness, one area requiring particularly close attention in any mining operation is that of managing critical resources - namely time, energy and equipment in a fast and efficient manner, In mining, with critical resources deployed over a large geographical area, any degree of success involved with resource management is dependent upon knowing the current status of all work related activities, if we, as mine operators, are to be more successful in this area, additional tools are a necessity and modern technology has provided a multitude of new options from which to choose.

The study of flotation kinetics was first reported by Garcia-Zuniga1 in 1935. Since then, literature on the subject has grown with the time. 2-19 Although there is an abundance of flotation kinet¬ics models available in the literature to describe flo¬tation systems, they are mostly of academic interest and are seldom applicable for use in the industrial environment. Several reasons contribute to the wide gap in the industrial -application of the academic models. These include: 1) the lack of generality in the model, e.g., the model is limited to certain size ranges; 14 2) the academic models involve complicated mathematics; 5,6,10,11 3) confusion about the order of the flo¬tation rate, e.g., several authors proposed a first order rate model, 1,15,16 whereas the others propagated a second order rate model: 2,17,18,194) the use of an unrealistic rigid value, such as the use of a maximum recovery of 100%, 5,8,19 which is unrealistic in industrial operations; and 5) the use of graphs that confuse the reader rather than interpret information. 2,3,10 This paper intends to introduce a simple and easy to understand empirical flotation kinetics model along with a way of presenting the model in an informative graphical form, which should stimulate the interest of other practical engineers to become concerned with practical application within the mineral industry.

"Construction of the OceanaGold Haile operation’s process plant in Kershaw, South Carolina is currently under way, with ore through the mill expected in late 2016 and commercial production expected in early 2017. The process is designed to treat 6,350 tonnes per day with minor upgrades required to achieve 8,270 tonnes per day. Plant optimization during detailed engineering, combined with a focus on de-risking the process, has resulted in numerous process changes since the initial design. This paper describes the plant optimization and de-risking, it also presents a proven commissioning strategy modelled after OceanaGold’s Didipio operation, whilst identifying potential expansion opportunities. INTRODUCTION Haile Gold Mine is located in Kershaw, South Carolina, approximately 50 miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina. Gold was first discovered at the site in 1827, and the property has been through several operating periods since. The last operation employed heap leaching from 1985 through 1992. Since then, the property has been closed and fully reclaimed. Romarco Minerals acquired the property in 2007, and began an exploration program that delineated 2.02Moz. of gold in reserve at an overall grade of 2.06 g/t. OceanaGold acquired Romarco Minerals and the Haile Operation in October of 2015. OceanaGold operates under a risk management philosophy in all aspects of operation, both corporately and at each individual business unit, and has implemented numerous process changes to eliminate or mitigate risks identified in the initial design of the processing circuit, and provided increased opportunity for optimization and expansion. This paper describes the plant optimization and de-risking, it also presents a proven commissioning strategy modelled after OceanaGold’s Didipio Operation, and identifies potential expansion opportunities. INITIAL PROCESSING CIRCUIT DESIGN An extensive metallurgical test work program was undertaken by Romarco Minerals and third party laboratories during the initial design phase of the Haile project [1]. This preliminary test work provided the technical information as a basis of plant design. The initial flow sheet for the Haile processing circuit is shown in Figure 1 (see APPENDIX). The plant is designed to process 6,350 tpd (7,000 stpd) on an annualized basis. The process begins with a jaw crusher followed by a SAG and ball mill grinding circuit to reduce particle size to P80 74 µm. A flash flotation cell treats 50% of the cyclone underflow in the ball mill circuit. Grinding circuit product is sent to a rougher flotation circuit to recover gold-bearing pyrite. The flotation concentrates from flash and rougher flotation are reground to P80 13 µm using stirred media detritors (SMD’s). The rougher flotation tail is pumped to the carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit for gold recovery. The reground concentrate is pre-aerated prior to being pumped to the CIL circuit. The CIL circuit is a hybrid circuit with eight tanks. Tank 1 leaches the pre-aerated concentrate only, and tanks 2 through 8 leach the combined flotation tailing and tank 1 discharge. The carbon strip circuit is a standard pressure Zadra system, followed by electrowinning, and refining using an induction furnace. CIL tailing passes through a cyanide recovery thickener prior cyanide destruction and then pumped to the tailing storage facility (TSF)."

A basic model has been developed to help assess methane control needs for longwall mining of coal in gassy areas. Rather than depending upon reservoir and rock mechanic theory, it uses an empirically-determined gas emission rate as an input and operates on the assumption that, within a specific region and zone, gas emissions will be relatively equivalent for uniform incremental volumes of gob created by mining. The computer program divides longwall panels into segments, keeps track of the face advance, and generates emission rates and volumes for both the entire panel and for individual zones within the panel by summing values for all undermined segments. This model can aid the determination of the number, size, and location of vertical wells or other methane control applications that are needed for gob gas control.

In the Appalachian region of the United States, approximately 40% of the underground coal reserve base exists in seams 0.7 - 1.1m thick. These seams are, in general, often of premium quality and are frequently accessible through above-drainage drift-type openings. Unfortunately, there are no apparent advantages to mining thin seams, if quality is disregarded. The thin-seam mine is faced with the same legal and economic pressures as any other underground coal mine. But in addition to these common problems, thin-seam operations must also deal with the unique problems associated with mining at such a restrictive height. Small-scale, short-lived operations appear to be the most feasible means of mining these reserves. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the production and safety potential of various thin-seam mining systems. Recommendations will be made regarding present and future thin-seam operations.

The thematic mapper (TM) aboard Landsat II records image data at seven wavelength intervals or bands. Three record the visible region; three record reflected IR energy. A false color image combining bands 7, 4 and 2 rendered as red, green and blue respectively provides maximum discrimination of rock types in arid regions. Structural analyses and interpretation defines regional structures, large volcano-tectonic features intrusive complexes, all which localize mineralization. Special digital processing using the ratio: Band 3 / Band 1 can identify limonites and other iron minerals. The ratio: Band 5/ Band 7 identifies clays and alunite. These ratio images show features and patterns of hydrothermal mineral systems: ?patterns of sulfide and alteration zoning in large porphyry systems, and zones of strong silica, quartz-alunite-illite, and pyrite-sericite in epithermal centers. Thus, digitally processed Landsat TM images are a cost effective and rapid means to recognize altered areas and define targets for large mineralized systems.

Metal prices are often predicted by relying on time trend projections of various economic indicators or even the trend in price itself Thus, time is the underlying explanatory variable acting through at best, a limited selection of economic variables. The price prediction method described in this paper differs from this by analyzing hundreds of economic variables to develop a few principle components that automatically capture the fundamental changes in the economy and delete duplicate or irrelevant information. This leaves a few principle variables to describe a state-space representation of the economy which can then be used for prediction. Forecasts of the price of a metal are then made based on these principle variables.

This case history provides a physical benchmark of tunneling technology progress comparing an old hand-mined tunnel to a modern 20-ft-diameter EPB TBM that mined in the same ground. This rare opportunity to see how tunnels were constructed many years ago occurred when an old 10-ft-diameter storm drain tunnel in the way of os Angeles subway construction was demolished and replaced with obas berglass pipe. Steel rib and lagging initial support was exposed showing solid-sawn 2" × 12" × 48" redwood lagging. This paper documents the as-built old tunnel, how it was successfully replaced, and some lessons learned.

Introduction In the design and specification of a ventilation system for an underground mine, it is necessary to make reasonably accurate estimates of the pressure losses in the various airways of the mine. These estimates can be made with little difficulty for open airways with simple geometric cross-sections, such as those cut by continuous miners or tunnel-boring machines. The situation is much different on a longwall face, where the airway's complex geometric cross section and the presence in the airway of obstructing equipment having a variety of shapes make it difficult, if not impossible, to estimate pressure loss using traditional methods of calculation. Head losses in mine entries are calculated using Atkinson's Equation. [22H= KPLQ (English) H= KP 3Q (SO (1) 5.2AA] where H = pressure loss, in. of H2O (Pa); K = friction factor, lbf•min2/ft4 (kg/m3); P = perimeter, ft (m); L = airway length, ft (m); Q = airflow quantity, ft3/min (m3/sec); and A = flow cross-sectional area, ft2 (m2) In this equation, the friction factor, K, is an empirical constant that describes the aerodynamic roughness of the airway. Typically, the K-factor for a given airway is determined by measuring the factors H, P, L, Q and A in Equation (1) and calculating K. Tables of friction factors calculated in this way are found in textbooks and handbooks that deal with mine ventilation analysis. Unfortunately, very few K-factors have been measured on longwall faces, and the accuracies of those that have been measured are entirely site specific, because of the wide variety of equipment found on longwalls. The development of a technique for prediction without mine-site measurements of the friction factor for any longwall face, regardless of its configuration, will thus be very useful in the design of ventilation systems for mines in which longwall mining is practiced. Calculation of pressure losses using Atkinson's Equation (1) and empirically determined K-factors provides accurate and useful approximations in cases where the airways have relatively simple cross sections. However, a careful analysis using the principles of fluid mechanics shows that such calculations are based on two assumptions that are not strictly correct when there are obstructions in the airway. The first assumption is that the air velocity distribution in the cross section, particularly around the perimeter, is uniform. This assumption results from the fact that the tabulated K-factor values found in the literature are based on field measurements with uniform conditions. Such uniformity does not exist in longwall airflows. The second common assumption is that the K-factor, and corresponding head loss, is independent of the Reynolds Number (NR) for a given flow. In fact, this assumption is not strictly correct, and is particularly erroneous in the case of irregular protuberances into the airflow, such as those found on a longwall face. The errors arising from the assumptions may be avoided by using K-factors calculated by a newly devised method, described below, which takes into account the fundamental principles of aerodynamic drag analysis. This new technique has two advantages: first, it is flexible enough to model any longwall, regardless of equipment configuration; second, it employs terminology and equations familiar to those who perform mine ventilation analysis, using K-factors, for which ventilation engineers have an intuitive understanding, rather than drag coefficients. To provide guidance for development of a longwall drag model, data were taken on two modern longwalls operating in substantially different conditions. Pressure measurements at Mine B were made with 200-foot (61-m) sections of 1/8-in. (3-mm) diameter plastic tubing, attached to a Dwyer Magnehelic gauge. Pressure drops were measured in 200-foot increments down the face, and summed to give the drop for the entire face length. This technique was found to produce small, repeated errors because of the number of segments required to span the longwall. At Mine A this problem was avoided by using a single, continuous, plastic tube for the entire face length. The psychrometric properties of the air were measured for both Mines A and B. A calibrated, standard vane-anemometer was used to measure the airflow on both faces. Finally, numerous dimensions were measured on both faces, and face profile drawings were obtained to allow detailed evaluation of the face equipment geometry. From this information, accurate evaluations of the average wetted perimeter and average area of the longwall face airways were made. INTRODUCTION Radcont is a program designed by the author of this paper for the industry to use as an instrument for radiation contamination evaluation and ventilation planning system. Radiation in mines are associated with the mining of gold and gold bearing minerals, as uranium and thorium is incorporated in the mining of these minerals. Radiation contamination in South African mines is not a new concept as it was investigated by the Chamber of Mines in the early 1960's and found not to be hazardous at the time. Since some of our mines export scrap metal to customers abroad, it came to light (1991) that some of the scrap metal was radioactive. The authority that oversees the nuclear aspects in South Africa is the Council for Nuclear Safety (CNS). They investigated these matters and found that the mines needed further information regarding radioactive material and the handling of these contaminated materials. As the various mines were licensed (with various conditions incorporated) thereafter, the mines had to do their own investigations as to what extent their properties (Surface and underground) were radioactively contaminated. Some mines were found to be highly contaminated over the years of operation and controlling conditions were installed and measures installed to reduce the contamination levels. One of the conditions when issuing a licence by the Council for Nuclear Safety (CNS), is that a screening survey be carried out to determine the radiation exposure levels and corrective action to be taken if necessary. These surveys must be done by a person trained in the required procedures for such a survey. The person must also measure the risk correctly and assess the results properly. In such a survey, the internal and external exposure levels must be determined to assess the total exposure of persons working in those conditions and take appropriate action if necessary. When doing such a survey, hundreds and more likely, thou- sands of data points are recorded. In order to assess the data recorded, various integrated and difficult calculations need to be made, and takes up enormous amounts of time. (This excludes the interpretation of the results ) The following explanation of the program shows the different parts of such a survey assessment calculations to be done. The paper details the program layout and the different sub- sections within the primary program. It must be stated that the program, as with any other program, is as accurate as the data inserted into the data base. The program and details thereof are given under the following headings: 1. TOTAL EFFECTIVE DOSAGE WITH REGARDS TO: • GME required gravimetric results obtained (mg/m3) • Thick layer or total contamination measured (Bq/m2) • Dry condition surveys with dust loads taken as a Standard l0mg/m3 • Wet conditions survey with dust loads taken as l mg/m3 • Airborne long lived alpha and beta activities as determined by analysis in Bg/m3 • LTD (Thermoluminescent Dosimeter). Results as obtained from the SABS (South African Buro of Standards) are recorded in this section for each month of the year for each individual worker. An average dose is then determined at the end of the year. • Bucket measurements as recorded. • Smear samples (Loose contamination). As determined by Electra or by analysis • Occupational factors for Metallurgical and Engineering occupations in and around the Metallurgical facilities of your mine. • All underground dosage determination and calculations. (Radon and Thoron) 2. INFORMATION REQUIRED WHEN PROGRAM IS INITIALISED: As the program is started, it opens up on the contents page. Here there are various options to choose from, but one is cautioned as a beginner in operating the program, not to perform any tasks before carefully reading these instructions. Firstly, one must go to the 'Information required" pushbutton. Press this button. The information required page is shown where the cursor can be moved to the block where one can enter the specific mines name. To enter a mines name, put the cursor in the block provided and just insert the mines name with the normal keyboard keys and press the enter button on the computer keyboard. To enter the other information required such as Alpha and Beta instrument efficiency, ALI (Annual limit of intake) and probe area, one can either press the 'Data required" button for a dialog box information or enter it manually by just putting the cursor in the block provided and entering as did above. In order to insert all the required information for the pro- gram to calculate the information required, one must proceed further by entering the area names surveyed in the spaces provided. There are 20 spaces to enter 20 different areas surveyed. One must further also provide the amount of days worked in each area (i.8. 250) in the block provided. The de- fault is 250 days. There are also standard information given in the information data page such as breathing rate (1,2 m31h), 8 hours worked per day, 5 days per week and 50 weeks per
