Precious metal mineralization at Mt. Hamilton, NV is associated with a polymetallic, garnet-pyroxene skarn system developed in middle to upper Cambrian calcareous shale, limestone, and dolomite. The skarn is developed around the Cretaceous Seligman and Monte Cristo calc-alkaline stocks. Gold is associated with intense retrograde alteration. Later epithermal quartz veins contain gold, silver, base-metal sulfides, and sulfosalts cross-cut skarn alteration. Westmont Mining Inc. is currently developing two mineralized zones containing a geologic resource of about 7 Mt (7.7 million st) that averages 1.7 g/t (0.05 oz per st) gold and 17.2 g/t (0.5 oz per st) silver. The project will have an estimated mine life of seven years, with a planned annual production rate of I t (35,000 oz) of gold and 9.3 t (300,000 oz) of silver.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo mostrar os ganhos financeiros e produtivos do Laminador de Aços Longos da CSN através da otimização do plano de passes. Analisando a árvore de calibração identificamos a possibilidade de ganhos com a unificação de famílias de bitolas. No laminador temos duas famílias: Família Ø 5,5 mm (bitolas 5,5; 7,0; 9,0; 11,0; 14,30) e Família Ø6,3mm (bitolas 6,3; 8; 10; 12,5 e 16) para a fabricação destas bitolas utilizamos até 18 passes no laminador duo horizontal/vertical e mais ate 10 passes no laminador acabador cantilever. Após um estudo detalhado do plano de passes existente, verificou-se a possibilidade da eliminação e unificação de passes entre as duas famílias. Para corroborar as alterações propostas, decidiu-se utilizar um modelo matemático que representasse os passes e realizasse os cálculos para verificar as reduções e capacidades dos equipamentos visando minimizar os riscos e custos adicionais com modificações de ferramental. Após mais de 60 horas de simulações e testes, foi desenhado um novo plano de passes para a Laminação eliminando-se a necessidade de troca de 8 cadeiras, o que representa um aumento de 6 horas no tempo disponível para produção por mês e também a redução de 8 pares de cilindros de laminação, redução de guias e roletes, e tempo de preparação na oficina de cilindros. Só após verificação e aprovação desta etapa foram iniciados os testes no laminador que confirmaram os resultados obtidos nas simulações.

O presente trabalho trata do estudo micrográfico e mecânico de junta soldada a multipassesde tubo de aço API 5L X70, pelo processo manual com eletrodorevestido (SMAW) para os passes de raiz, enchimento e acabamento na posição vertical 3G. Em acordo com API 1104, o consumível escolhido foi eletrodo revestido básico E 9018 – M, a fim de atender a parâmetros de soldabilidade e permitir a comparação dos resultados com trabalhos anteriores. Foram realizados ensaios macrográficos e micrográficos qualitativos da junta soldada e do metal de base, bem como a medição da microdureza Vickers (HV) ao longo da junta e medição do tamanho de grão da região de superaquecimento. Ensaios mecânicos de dobramento, tração e impacto também foram realizados. Os resultados dos ensaios Charpy foram correlacionados com a estrutura metalúrgica, tamanho de grão e microconstituintes presentes na junta soldada.

A espumação de escória pode ser definida como sendo o aumento na espessura da camada de escória que ocorre devido à evolução de bolhas de CO(g) durante a operação do forno elétrico a arco. Um dos maiores benefícios obtidos com a espumação da escória no forno elétrico a arco é a diminuição dos custos com eletricidade. O presente trabalho tem por objetivos estudar por meio da termodinâmica computacional alguns tópicos do sistema quaternário CaO-SiO2-FeO-MgO (CSFM) importante na siderurgia pela conexão com o tema espumação de escória, que são: (i) composições de saturação das fases sólidas ‘MgO’ e ‘CaO’ e (ii) a viscosidade efetiva de um ponto particular deste sistema.

Experience has shown how difficult it is to obtain information regarding laboratory-tests in connection with the chlorina-tion-process for the extraction of gold from its ores, and I therefore present the following method, somewhat in detail, for the benefit of those who may desire to pursue research work in this field. The ore chosen was a partly-decomposed porphyry, extremely siliceous and comparatively soft, and of an average value per ton of from $25 to $26 in gold and $0.68 in silver. The chemical analysis gave: Fe,O,, 3.35; FeS, 1.5; MnO,, 0.75; ZuCO,, 4; A1,0,, 3.20; H,O, 0.7 ; SiO, and insol., 83.50 per cent. The ore, first crushed to pass a 5-mesh screen, was coned and quartered until a 45-lb. sample was obtained. Samples for assay and analysis, taken from this lot by means of riffles, were crushed to pass a 100-mesh screen. The original sample was divided into 10-lb. lots, of which one was crushed to pass a 10-mesh screen; another through a 12-; the third through a 20-, and the last through a 30-mesh screen. Because of the production of an excessive quantity of fine material it was deemed inexpedient to crush finer than 30-mesh size—a decision the wisdom of which is proved by the data in Table I., showing the increasing ratio of slimes, in proportion as the ore is crushed finer. In order to determine the percentage of fines in the sizes of mesh selected, a weighed sample of ore was taken from each mesh, and a sample from the 10-mesh lot was passed successively through 20-, 40- and 100-mesh screens, and the percentage remaining on each screen determined. This process was repeated with the 12-, 20- and 30-mesh lots, with the results given in Table I.

A demanda por aços com baixos teores de enxofre tem propiciado o aprimoramento das técnicas de dessulfuração de gusa. O presente trabalho tem como o objetivo mostrar, através de um modelo em água, a influência da injeção auxiliar de gás através do impeller S.I.R.A.M sobre o tempo de mistura no processo do Reator Kanbara (KR) e sobre a área de contato desse gás com o líquido. Diferentes velocidades de rotação do impeller, vazões de gás injetado e pontos de injeção foram avaliados. Os resultados obtidos foram comparados com a condição de não injeção de gás. Observou-se que a injeção de gás é capaz de reduzir o tempo total de mistura.

Based on several case studies on the precipitating behavior of valuable nonferrous metal compounds (VNMC) in molten slags a green technology for the recovery of VNMC from molten slags was proposed. This technology involves three steps: (I) The selective enrichment of the dispersed VNMC into the designed mineral phase in the molten slag; (2) The selective coarsening of the designed mineral phase to a critical grain size in the molten slag; (3) The selective separation from tailing of the grown mineral phase in the solidified slag by dressing or hydrometallurgy processes. This is a clean and low cost technique and has a great capacity to deal with a large quantity of slags. The utilization of the recovered VNMC such as Titanium, Boron, Vanadium compounds was summarized as examples of application. It was confirmed by experiments that the precipitating behavior of the designed mineral phases like Perovskite(CaTiO3), Suanite(2MgO*B2O3) and Sincosite(CaOoV2O5*P2O5) in molten slags is obviously affected by operation factors such as temperature, chemical composition, heat-treatment, additives and so on. The precipitating kinetics and mechanism of the VNMC from molten slags during solidification processes were also investigated.

As fibras lignocelulósicas naturais são cada vez mais utilizadas como reforço em compósitos de matriz polimérica devido a vantagens econômicas e ambientais como serem renováveis e biodegradáveis. Este trabalho tem como objetivo estudar a influência de 10, 20 e 30% em volume de tecido de malva na resistência à tração de compósitos preparados submetidos à 5 toneladas de pressão. O tecido natural foi previamente lavado e seco à temperatura ambiente, depois disposto em uma matriz metálica com formato ósseo, em seguida, uma resina de poliéster (misturada com catalisadores) é vertida sobre o tecido dentro da matriz, o conjunto é transportado a uma prensa e submetido a 5 toneladas de carga. Observou-se que a resistência à tração cresceu significativamente com o aumento da quantidade de tecido natural de malva incorporado na matriz de poliéster. Esta melhora no desempenho pode ser diretamente associado à dificuldade de romper o tecido malva e ao tipo de trincas resultantes da interação do tecido de malva com a matriz.

Investigou-se a extração seletiva de Ca e Mg do licor sulfúrico concentrado de Ni visando sua purificação. Observou-se que a mistura sinérgica dos extratantes D2EHPA + ácido naftênico apresenta maior afinidade na extração de Ca em pH = 5. Comportamento oposto foi verificado pelo extratante Cyanex 272, cuja preferência de extração é pelo Mg para 5 = pH = 6. A cinética de extração de Ca e Mg é rápida atingindo o equilíbrio em menos de 6 minutos. A purificação do licor de Ni requer a utilização de 2 circuitos de extração em operações estagiadas. No primeiro circuito, Ca pode ser removido do licor empregando-se o sistema orgânico D2EHPA (10% v/v) + ácido naftênico (20% v/v). O pH ótimo é 3,5, no qual foram extraídos 72% de Ca (ßCa/Ni = 40) em uma contatação. No segundo circuito, o licor deve ser submetido a uma extração de Mg pelo Cyanex 272 (20% v/v). O pH operacional propício é 5,5 com extração de 66% de Mg (ßMg/Ni = 16, uma contatação). O licor purificado de Ni pode ser encaminhado à etapa de eletrorrecuperação almejando-se a obtenção de Ni metálico.

The conditions that govern the selection of a suitable type of detachable bit for the small, isolated mine, for rock work and tunnel contracting and for the large mine are quite dissimilar, therefore intelligent recommendation of a particular make of detachable bit must involve consideration of many factors. Small, isolated mines may find advantageous a detachable bit that a larger mine cannot afford to use, because of more efficient conventional steel sharpening and steel-distribution practice, but a small mine may not be able to adopt the practice of large mines because of necessary capital expenditures for equipment for detachable-bit sharpening and . shanking. The perfect detachable bit, suitable for all conditions, has not yet been developed. Conventional Drill Bit in Use That drilling speed increases as the bit gauge decreases is well known, but since small-hole drilling is the exception rather than the rule the rate of such increase is probably not so generally recognized. Tests carried out by Holman Brothers Limited1 with 7/8-in. steel show that when bit sizes are reduced from I½ in., I3/8 in., and I3/16 in-; to I3/8 in., I1/4 in.., and I1/8 in., respectively, the volume of the hole is I 5 per cent less and the drilling speed 49 per cent higher. Recent tests by the United States Bureau of Mines2,3 in hard, uniform basalt showed that a reduction in average gauge from 2.077 to I,826 in., a difference of o.25I in., gave an increased drilling speed of 65 per cent. The limits to which a drill hole may be extended depend upon the loss in gauge. Since the conventional bit with 5° and 14° clearances did not possess sufficient reaming edge to permit the smaller gauge changes that were required for small-hole drilling, experiments were made in bit construction with a view to correcting this deficiency. This resulted in the adoption of the full reaming cross bit (having full Carr charac1erist.i~~) by some mines4 In order to drill holes having a minimum taper from the collar to the bottom of the hole, full reaming center-hole cross bits with 90° cutting angles, 5° and 14° wing tapers, forged on 7/8-in. quarter-octagon drill rods, are used in the conventional drill-steel practice at Hollinger. In the steel shop close attention is given to the condition of the dies and dollies, which, combined with a rigid inspection of the finished bit, ensures as nearly a perfect bit as call be forged economically. "Abstract - Camelback is a small (=200 000 tonnes), moderate grade (5%-7% Zn+Pb), volcanogenic massive sulfide deposit, which occurs within the Nepisiguit Falls Formation of the Ordovician Tetagouche Group. The host rocks are tuffaceous sedimentary rocks (Little Falls member) that overlie quartz-feldspar porphyritic tufflavas (Grand Falls member). The hanging-wall sequence comprises rhyolite of the Flat Landing Brook Formation, overlain by the Forty Mile Brook tholeiitic basalt. A dike of unaltered andesite was intersected beneath the massive sulfides, but was not found in the hanging-wall sequence in the vicinity of the deposit. The stratiform part of the deposit is made up of two, steeply south dipping, subparallel massive lenses that average approximately 4 m in thickness. Each lens is zoned, with an upper part consisting mainly of a pyrite and a basal part containing pyrite, sphalerite, and galena, with Ag values. The Au content in the massive sulfides is low (average = 52 ppb for 271 samples), but tends to be enriched in the massive pyrite near the top of each lens. Oxide facies iron formation is spatially associated with the massive sulfides, and has been traced up to 1800 m along strike. Footwall hydrothermal alteration is typical of VMS systems, and is characterized by depletion in K2O and Na2O, and enrichment in MgO and Fe2O3T with proximity to massive sulfides. The massive lenses are underlain by intensely chloritic, fine-grained, tuffaceous sedimentary rocks containing locally significant sulfide (chalcopyrite > pyrite > pyrrhotite) veins, which are interpreted to represent feeder zone mineralization. Unlike many VMS deposits, there is no evidence of silicification beneath the massive sulfides at the top of the feeder zone. The oxygen isotopic compositions (d18O = -1.5‰ to -0.3‰) of hydrothermal chlorite coupled with sulfur isotopic compositions (d34S ˜ 12‰) of the massive sulfides suggest that seawater was the dominant fluid in the hydrothermal system. Normalized rare earth element diagrams show flat Ce profiles and positive Eu anomalies, indicating that modified seawater was involved in ore formation; i.e., high-temperature (=350ºC), acidic, and reduced prior to entrainment into the hydrothermal cell. Although, seawater was the dominant fluid in the sulfide-forming system, d34S values of stringer zone sulfides (8.5‰) coupled with elevated Sn (400 ppm) in one massive sulfide sample indicate that there was at least some magmatic component in the hydrothermal cell."

"A phosphate deposit of estimated 6 billion tons of P2O5 is located 180 to 300 meters below the sea level, 185 kilometers north of port Luderitz, Namibia. The ore bed is 6 kilometers wide and 220 kilometers long. The ore deposit analyzing 16% P2O5 is loose sediment of 1.5 meters thick without over burden. Sizing of the ore to - 1.4 mm + 0.150 mm improves the grade to 23.54% P2O5 with a P2O5 recovery at 83.75% containing phosphate pellets and flakes of sea shells. Clay, bacterial debris as organic matter, flakes of broken sea shells and fine phosphate containing particles report to - 0.150 mm fraction and + 1.4 mm fraction contains sea shells and few phosphate containing pellets. The mineralogical composition of phosphate containing pellets is estimated (Droste, T.C., 2004) 80% frankolite, 6% pyrite, 4% illite, 3% quartz, 3% amorphous SiO2, 1% carbonates, 1% organic carbon and = 1% ilmenite, magnetite, zircon etc. The phosphate content in the pellets is around 27.7% P2O5. Trials to separate by gravity or flotation processes were not successful. Leaching of carbonates (sea shell flakes) under mild acidic condition (= 2% acetic acid or HCl solutions) or calcinations followed by leaching however yielded residues (concentrates) of grades 27.85 - 32.74% P2O5 at P2O5 recoveries ranging from 78.45 - 96.8% P2O5."

The effect of clustering on the superconducting properties of Al-Zn alloys has been studied by the ballistic induction techniques. The superconducting critical temperature, T,, changes when zinc-rich clusters are formed. The change in T, depends on the concentration and may be positive or negative, but always correlates with an effective decrease in the solute concentration of the alloy. Reversion after clustering effectively returns a 5 at. pct Zn alloy to the quenched state. These methods might be use&lly extended to the Al-Mg system, where X-ray data are difficult to obtain. In very dilute Al-Zn alloys, as in other tin,' indium, aluminum,2 or tantalums base solid solutions, there is a decrease in the superconducting critical temperature, Tc, roughly proportional to the temperature independent resistivity, i.e., -0.2°K per pS2cm. With increasing solute concentration, the T, generally reaches a minimum and then increases4 to a value well above that for the pure solvent. The change of T, with solute concentration follows an empirical formulation involving two constants which correlate with the scattering cross section of the impurities. As will be shown below, the Al-Zn alloys more concentrated than 1or2at. pct do not follow the empiricism, probably because they are unstable even when rapidly quenched.5 However, it seems possible to study at least the later stages of solute clustering by precise measurements of the 1', following various thermal treatments. A few experiments on quenched alloys, aged alloys, and tests on reversion are reported here. The heat treatments selected for obtaining the quenched and aged states were mainly deduced from the work of Dash and Fine.6 For the quenched state, specimens were homogenized at 480°C, quenched to -160°C, and immediately transferred and mounted in liquid nitrogen. Measurements on the superconducting properties and residual resistivities were then made at helium temperatures, after which the specimens were aged at room temperature for 3 to 5 hr, i.e., much longer than the time required for clustering to be essentially completed. The superconducting properties and residual resistivities were once again examined. To reach the reverted state of the A1-5at. pct Zn alloy, the aged specimen was heated for 5 min at 200°C and then tested as above.

A siderurgia mundial vive um momento de excesso de oferta, com isso as empresas necessitam reduzir custos por meio da melhora de processos e/ou através da substituição por matérias primas alternativas às convencionalmente utilizadas. Este trabalho trata justamente deste tópico e busca substituir a fluorita por outra fonte de fluxante, neste caso, o óxido de boro. Neste trabalho o óxido de boro foi adicionado a escórias sintéticas num banho de aço à 1600°C. Foram realizados testes com proporções de 3%, 5% e 7% de óxido de boro na composição das escórias. A fusão foi realizada em atmosfera inerte de argônio em um forno de resistência de dissiliceto de molibdênio. Amostras de aço foram removidas periodicamente a cada 5 minutos até os 25 minutos de experimento. Estas amostras foram analisadas em um espectrômetro de infravermelho. Os resultados indicam a viabilidade técnica para a aplicação do óxido de boro como substituinte da fluorita.

"IntroductionThe advantages of non-stoichiometric perovskite material are highlighted in many papers[l]and many of this family of materials are well-suited to integration into microsensor devices. Among them, barium titanate is the most promising due to it's piezoelectric, pyroelectric, dielectric properties. Through modification, BaTiO3-based materials can be utilized in many kinds fields, such as surface wave probe; pholoconducting devices, field-effect transistor, permanent memory permanent storage, and ultrasonic transducerl2-3l. In this Paper, a series of BaTiO3-based polycrystals were synthesized by sol-gel processing which appears to be a very promising method for the manufacture of ceramic, because it offers significant advantages such as high purity, chemical homogeneity, controlled particle sizes of ceramics, and lower processing temperatures [4]. In a sol-gel process, alkoxides of the constituent elements show different reactivity toward water so that the preparation of multi-component homogenous system is difficult. In the experiment, inorganic salt was substituted for some of the alkoxides. Acetic acid which is employed for the solvent and catalyst, acts as donor ligand to titanium alkoxide and controls, the hydrolysis polycondensation reaction. Taking these aspects into consideration, we select the system Ba(OAc)2, , La(OAc)3, Ti(O11Bu)4 and acetic acid which is used as both solvent and homogeneous catalyst for the first time.ExperimentalA series of La3+-doped BaTiO3-based nano-crystals were prepared with sol-gel technology using various parameters. The precursor solution was prepared in the presence of barium acetate, lathanium acetate, and titanium tetrabutoxide monomer in butyl alcohol. According to the flow chart (fig. I.), Ba(OAc)2, La(OAch dissolved in the glacial acetic acid (0. lmol/40ml) in a three-neck flask were mixed with a solution of titanium tetrabutoxide monomer in butyl-alcohol(l 7ml/20ml) at room temperature and under constantly, vigorous stirring conditions. In most cases, the resultant solution was golden yellow and stable in the air. To this precursor solution, containing Ba, La, Ti in the desired ratio, water was added incrementally for hydrolysis under continuous stirring until sol was formed. After aging for more than 2 hours, sol was transformed to gel at room temperature. If heated during aging, the gel was formed in a shorter time. The wet gel was allowed to dry at 50°C for more than 10 hours. The dried gel was transparent or light yellow. In order to obtain BaTiO3-based nano-crystals, the amorphous dry gel was calcined at 600°C, 700°C, 800°C, 900°C, 1000°C respectively[5]. The ceramic humidity sensor was formed through the cold-pressed, aged, capsulated routes. The dried gels were crushed in an agate mortar and then pressed into discs of ? 1.5 X l.5mm (l.5mm diameter and l.5mm thickness), then held at about 16.5 MPa pressure for 3 min [6]. The disc was sintered at 1350°C and 1400°C for I hour respectively. During the processing, an Ag-Pt electrode was inserted in the sensor [7]. (See the flow chart.)"

"This paper describes a methodical approach to the estimation of the orientation and the magnitude of in-situ stresses. The study was performed at the Ruttan Mine, Sherritt Gordon Mines Ltd. , a 6,000 T.P.D. underground operation, located in northern Manitoba, Canada. It involves an initial estimate to be made based upon: structural interpretation • virgin stress measurements conducted in other areas (world wide, regional)The verification of the prevailing stress regime was made by conducting CSIRO hollow inclusion(1) overcoring measurements. The current cost for a virgin stress determination is about $7000 per measurement(2) and the difficulty encountered in attaining a good reading is high. This paper will describe the analytical procedures employed at Ruttan in evaluating the in-situ stress magnitude and orientation based on three overcore tests. The Ruttan copper-zinc orebody is a multi-lensed, steeply dipping (70 degrees) en-echelon deposit. Individual lenses have a maximum strike length of 350 m with widths varying from 7 m to 61 m. The mining method is o pen stoping with delayed backfilling and extends from surface to 860 m below surface."

Stillwater Mining Co. (SMC) is the largest primary producer of platinum and palladium in North America. SMC operates two underground mines in south central Montana, along the 45-km (28-mile) platinum/palladium J-M Reef in the Stillwater Complex. The Stillwater Mine exploits 9.6 km (6 miles) of deposit strike length and East Boulder Mine exploits 4 km (2.5 miles) of deposit length. The two mines are 20.4 km (12.7 miles) apart with SMC controlling a considerable length along the entire J-M Reef trace. Production at the Stillwater Mine began in 1986 and in 1988 the first tunnel boring machine (TBM) was commissioned, becoming an integral part of mine development at SMC. TBMs have been used for developing production footwall laterals (FWL) to access new mining blocks at the Stillwater Mine, as well as boring twin crosscut ac-cess tunnels at the East Boulder. Two TBM development expansion projects are currently in progress: the Graham Creek project at the East Boulder Mine, which will extend footwall lateral development 2,591 m (8,500 ft) to the west, and the Blitz project, where a TBM will be commissioned to extend east out of the Stillwater Mine to 3,658 m (12,000 ft) beyond the current production mining front. General strike and dip of the Reef is west to east and to the north, respectively.

The electro-optic coefficients of LiNbO, and KTao.,5Nboe3,O3 (KTN) have been experimentally determined at the HeNe laser wavelengths of 0.6328, 1.15, and 3.39 µ. The coefficients were calculated fronz the retardation induced by an applied electric field. The retardations were measured by observing one or move transmission maxima and minima as a function of the applied field, and by measuring the retardation directly with a Babinet-Soleil compensator. The values obtained agree quite well with those previo~lsly reported by others. Extinction ratios as high as 3000:l have been observed. Resistivities and Curie temperatures have also been measured. Light-induced optical inhornogeneities in LiNbO, repovted by others have been observed. CONSIDERABLE interest has recently been shown in the electro-optic properties of LiNb03 (Refs. 1 and 2) and KTN.3, 4 These crystals have a number of advantages over such well-known materials as KDP. These advantages include: 1) the infrared transmission of KTN and LiNb03 extends to 5 p whereas that of KDP cuts off at 1.5 p ; 2) driving voltages required for modulators using these materials are considerably lower than those required for KDP. After first discussing some theoretical considerations of the electro-optic effect, we will report the results of measurements of the dc electro-optic coefficients of these materials at wavelengths of 0.6328, 1.15, and 3.39 p. THEORY The generalized equation for the electro-optic effect can be written: Although lattice polarization is the fundamental variable, rather than the applied electric field, we follow the convention of expressing the linear electro-optic effect in terms of the applied field. For LiNbO the quadratic terms are negligible. Since KTN has a center of symmetry the rijk tensor is 0. After applying the usual symmetry considerations and index contractions,* the rijk and gijkl tensors can be expressed as follows: LiNbOaT If field directions are now chosen, the change in refractive index and the angle between the induced optic axes and the crystallographic axes can be found. The induced rotations of the principal axes of the index ellipsoid for fields in principal crystallographic directions are given in Table I. Since KTN is initially isotropic, the principal axes in the zero-field condition are parallel to the crystallographic axes. The induced retardations are given in Table 11. (communication to the Secretary): When, at the New Pork meeting, February, 1899, Mr. Douglas gave an abstract of his highly interesting paper on the Copper Queen mine, he invited the members of the Institute, in his usual progressive spirit, to make a full scientific investigation of the region of that mine during the prospective excursion to Bisbee, Arizona. I volunteered to examine some of the metallurgical processes and products of the works, and obtained from Mr. Douglas a valuable series of samples. Upon the issue of his paper, however, I found that he had already a considerable volume of analyses of those products, and that little was left for me to do in that respect, except to duplicate his results, the importance of which work would not have been commensurate to the time and labor involved. I selected, therefore, only some points which he had not made entirely clear, or concerning which I was skeptical. The details of most of my work will appear in a future paper. From Mr. Douglas's figures I have calculated the values for the elimination of impurities in the so-called Leghorn converter, introduced by him at the Copper Queen works, and have found them to be as follows: Percentage of Elimination of Impurities in Pour Blows of a Converter.
