INTRODUCTION The shovelling of rock in stopes is still a basic and important operation in many gold mines in the removal of gold-bearing rock from the stopes. There is, however, little factual knowledge of the factors which influence the the rates of energy expenditure and work output, and of the way in which variations in these factors, individually or in combination, affect the mechanical efficiency of the mine workers. What for example is the influence of different rates of shovelling, shovel loads and distances of throw? How does stope width and dip of the stope affect the mechanical efficiency of men shovelling rock? Recently a simple physiological test was introduced into the gold mining industry for classifying Bantu recruits into those capable of hard, moderate and light work. If this test is used to select only those Bantu mine workers who are capable of hard work for the task of shovelling rock in stopes then the rate of energy expenditure which could be expected from these men is 1.5 litres/min for the entire period of the shift. With an adequate knowledge of the influence of the various factors which affect the rate of energy expenditure of men shovelling rock in stopes it would be possible to set work standards for Bantu mine workers in stopes. This should be done in terms of the rate of shovelling, the shovel load and the distance of throw for any combination of width of stope, dip of stope, condition of foot wall and grade of rock in such a way that the resultant energy expenditure would be the 'optimum' that could be expected from the men but would be within their capacities for physical work of an endurance nature (that is, 1. 5 litres/min from the 'average' Bantu mine worker). Work standards could thereby be determined for the different stopes of a mine on a sound and systematic basis. In order to supply the information required a study was carried out by the Human Sciences Laboratory in which the work output and energy expenditures (in terms of oxygen consumption in litres/min) were measured on six highly trained Bantu mine workers under the following conditions: (a) rates of shovelling of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10 shovels per minute. (b) loads of from 9 to 18 lb on the shovel. (c) distances of throw from 8 to 20 ft. (d) stope width of 28 in., 42 in. and 72 in. (e) dip of stopes of 0°, 15° and 30°. (f) rough and smooth footwalls and various grades of rock size. This paper gives the main results of practical importance of this study. Method The experiments were designed and conducted in conjunction with the Work Study Department of one certain underground conditions such as variable stope widths, stope angle, etc., were made available in a mine Surface Training School and suitable subjects were selected from the large number of labourers being put through the training school. Subjects Bantu recruits who had returned to the mine for a new contract and who had previous underground experience on shovelling were considered to be suitable as subjects for the experiments. The particulars of the subjects are given in Table I. After the technique was mastered, the men started shovelling rock and were trained for at least four hours per day to work at the higher shovelling rates. Training was continued for three weeks to enable the subjects to achieve a reasonable degree of physical training and conditioning. Shovelling method In both the kneeling and standing positions the subjects faced the pile of rock, grasped the shovel in the accepted manner and pushed the blade of the shovel into the base of the pile of rock, sliding the blade between the rock and the concrete floor. In the standing position (72 in. wide stope) the back leg assisted in the movement by pushing the knee against the back of the hand holding the shovel handle. Mining Lease SML 57 was registered to Mount Kasi on 5 January, 1995. The Mount Kasi gold mine is located in Vanua Levu, Fiji's second largest island and operated from 1932 to 1946 producing 261,000t of ore at an average grade of 7.5g/t Au. The deposit represents a structurally controlled style of high sulphidation copper gold mineralisation with peripheral low sulphidation mesothermal vein type gold mineralisation. The resource consists of 1,048,000 tonnes of residual soils (eluvium) containing 1.9 g/t Au at 0.5 g/t Au cut off and 1,240,000 tonnes of hard rock at 3.0 g/t Au and 1.0 g/t Au cut. 94 drill holes, 298 auger holes and 85 pits were modelled to outline the resource. 29% of the pits bottomed in mineralisation and it is likely the full thickness of eluvium has been understated. The pit is scheduled to produce 500,000 tonnes of ore per annum to yield 35,000 ounces of gold with an initial 2 years of eluvial ore followed by a further 2 years of hard rock ore. Total capital costs are estimated to be less than 10.0 million dollars with construction planned to commence in 1995. The likelihood of locating further ore is high.

Essa frota é fundamental em função da flexibilidade de produção. No entanto, o produto da manutenção é a disponibilidade física (DF), que é o tempo disponível para o equipamento operar. Assim, desenvolveu-se um trabalho de seis sigma voltado para a disponibilidade física (DF) da frota, que não estava no patamar esperado. O trabalho foi desenvolvido através de ferramentas de análise e solução de problemas, no período de Jan/12 a Ago/12. A DF média da frota era 68,5% sendo o benchmark interno de 72%. As ocorrências de parada foram agrupadas por sistemas utilizando o critério de similaridade. Após isso foram utilizadas ferramentas de priorização dos focos mais relevantes encontrados. Para estes focos foi feita análise de comportamento no tempo e variabilidade com intuito de encontrar as causas fundamentais para ocorrência dos eventos. As causas foram classificadas e priorizadas e as ações foram então definidas e implantadas. Foram monitorados os indicadores MTBF, DF e considerado o aspecto financeiro. Estabeleceu-se uma rotina de gestão e padronização de processo como forma de alcançar o resultado. Ao fim do trabalho, foram plantadas as sementes dos bons resultados colhidos desde então, chegando a DF de 74,1%.

O objetivo desse trabalho consiste no estudo do grau de sensitização do aço UNS S31803 envelhecido a 700ºC por ensaios de reativação potenciodinâmica de duplo loop (DL-EPR). Para isso corpos de prova do aço em estudo foram solubilizados a 1175ºC e envelhecidos a 700ºC em tempos entre 10 min e 360 h. Corpos de prova metalográficos foram utilizados para caracterização microestrutural que foi realizada por meio de técnicas de estereologia quantitativa a partir de imagens de elétrons retroespalhados e análises magnéticas usando o ferritoscópio. Os ensaios DL-EPR foram conduzidos em solução 2M H2SO4 + 0,5M NaCl + 0,01M KSCN à 30ºC em amostras polidas. Observou-se que o comportamento eletroquímico do aço UNS S31803 possui forte influência da microestrutura, já que o grau de sensitização (GS) aumenta com o aumento do tempo de envelhecimento, devido à formação de fases intermetálicas que empobrecem as regiões adjacentes em Cr e Mo.

The point estimation method can be applied to the safety factor (SF) equation for any specified rock slope failure mode (such as plane shear, step path, or wedge) to obtain reliable estimates of the mean and standard deviation of the SF probability distribution. A gamma probability density function is recommended for modeling this probability distribution, because it allows only for positive values and is flexible enough to provide symmetrical shapes and right-skewed, exponential-type shapes for the SF distribution. The mean and standard deviation define this distribution, which then can be integrated numerically from 0 to 1 to obtain the probability of sliding, PS (portion of the SF distribution where SF < 1.0). The overall probability of failure, PF, for the potential slope failure mass is the joint probability that the rock discontinuities are long enough to allow kinematic failure (PL) and that sliding occurs along the rock discontinuities (PS); that is, PF = PSPL. This method for estimating the probability of sliding is extremely efficient computationally, and thus, expedites slope stability simulation routines used by NIOSH software to stochastically describe rock slope behavior and assist the engineer in designing catch benches for large rock slopes. Enhanced bench design translates into increased operational efficiency and safer working conditions in open pit mines and quarries.

Chromite is the only ore mineral of metallic chromium and chromium compounds and chemicals. Because of this fact, chromite and chrome ore are used synonymously in trade literature. In commercial market quotations, chrome ore is the term commonly used. Chromite per se, because of properties imparted by its chromium content, is used in refractories and in special purpose molding sands for metal casting. There are many other minerals containing some, generally minor, amounts of chromium, but none are commercial sources of the element (Thayer, 1956). Chromium and chromite have many diverse uses that, directly and indirectly, critically affect vast segments of our modern industrial system. Most important are probably the metallurgical applications wherein chromium is a component of heat-, abrasion-, corrosion-and oxidation-resistant and high-strength alloys of many types. Stainless steels are the largest volume category of chrome-bearing alloys. Chromium chemicals are used in leather tanning, in pigments, dyes and mordants, printing, chemical process industries, photography, pharmaceuticals, metal plating, pure chromium metal production, and for many other purposes. Chromite is a necessary constituent in basic refractories indispensable for the production of steel, copper, cement, and glass. Under present conditions, the US and North America, with the possible exception of Cuba, have no commercial ore reserves. There are chromite deposits, as will be described, but they would be used only under highly abnormal conditions if all outside sources were cut off for an extended period. All chromite used in the US is imported from the eastern hemisphere in which are contained the principal world reserves. The main suppliers in 1980 were the Republic of South Africa (43%), the USSR (21% ), the Philippines (12%), Albania (11 %), Turkey (8%), and others (5%). The strategic nature of chromite is obvious. End Uses-Grades and Specifications As noted before, the three principal uses for chromite are metallurgical, refractories, and chemical with a fourth minor use as foundry molding sand. For metallurgical applications chrome ore is first reduced in electric carbon arc furnaces to various types of ferrochromium alloys. There are high, medium, and low carbon ferrochromiums with carbon ranging from 0.01 up to 10%. Chromium itself ranges from 50 to 73 %. Ferrosilicon chromium and ferrochromium-silicon grades have chromium from 33 to 67% and silicon from 3 to about 48%. Since iron is reduced with chromium, the Cr:Fe ratio of the ore will determine the ultimate grade of the ferrochromium whereas carbon and silicon can be controlled during processing. MgO, A12O3, CaO, and excess SiO2, are removed in slag. A small amount of pure chromium metal is prepared by alumino-thermic and electrolytic processes from essentially iron-free chrome components that have been made via the chemical route. The higher grades of ferrochromium with chromium in the 66 to 73% range can only be made from ores with not only high chromium content, but low iron, i.e., high Cr:Fe ratio. These ores, conventionally termed metallurgical grade, have Cr2O3 contents of 45 to 56% with Cr: Fe ratios of 2.5 to 4.3. A standard composition is generally 48% Cr2O3 and 3:1 Cr:Fe ratio. Very high grade ores are often blended with lower grades even with the high iron chemical grade. For some ferrochromiums, additions of high alumina refractory grade are used as slag conditioners to facilitate smelting while still contributing chromium values. The influence of flux CaO2–Al ratio on the Self propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS)-casting reaction products in WO3–Si–Al system has been investigated in this study. Incorporation of CaO2–Al amounting to 1–5 wt% of total charge has been found to be adequate to form WSi2 intermetallic with a maximum hard-W5Si3 secondary phase. The micro-hardness of tungsten silicides intermetallic product increased significantly with CaO2–Al ratio. The as-SHS-casting products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) technique.

Um dos principais problemas enfrentados pelas aciarias é o descarte dos resíduos gerados durante a produção do aço. Além de se pagar pelo descarte em aterros monitorados, ocorre também a perda de elementos de liga, tais como Cr, Ni, Mo, V, etc. O objetivo deste trabalho é estudar a viabilidade de se aglomerar alguns resíduos gerados durante a produção do aço (lama de VOD/VD, poeira de forno panela e carepa de forjaria) na forma de pelotas autorredutoras e adiciona-las ao forno elétrico a arco (FEA). Primeiramente os resíduos foram misturados com finos de coque de petróleo e cimento. Após a pelotização e o período de cura, as pelotas autorredutoras foram fundidas num forno de indução (teste laboratorial), visando avaliar o nível de recuperação dos elementos de liga a partir dos resíduos. O rendimento dos elementos Cr, Ni e Mo variaram de 84% a 99% nos teste laboratoriais. Nos testes industriais envolvendo as pelotas autorredutoras de carepa de forjaria (aço ferramenta H13), os rendimentos dos elementos Cr, Mo e V variaram de 51%-92%, 94%-99% e 27,5%-88%, respectivamente.

Tracer gases have been utilized successfully in a variety of industries, each with specific releasing and sampling methods. The various attributes of tracer gases are dependent on the industry the tracers are utilized in. Tracers must be chemically and thermally stable, safe, odorless, detectable at low concentrations, have a low background concentration, and should not be naturally occurring in the environment if they are utilized in underground mining applications (Thimons et al., 1974). In addition, the tracer gas should be inexpensive, non-corrosive, non-toxic, easily transportable, readily attainable, and non-radioactive (Kennedy et al., 1987). Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) met many of these above requirements and therefore was introduced as an ideal tracer gas to use in mining industry in the early 1970?s (Thimons et al., 1974). Due to the nature of underground mining including complicated geometry, irregular flows, turbulent flows, obstructed airways, and leakages it is difficult to use conventional anemometer and smoke tube techniques to accurately measure the effectiveness of ventilation controls (Thimons et al., 1974; Klinowski and Kennedy, 1991). There have been several applications of SF6 as a tracer gas in underground metal/non-metal and coal mines. Thimons et al. conducted early testing of SF6 in an underground limestone mine and determined that it is an effective technique for evaluating auxiliary fans, estimating volumetric flow rates in large areas, and measuring low flow velocities. A rapid face ventilation measurement method (FVM) utilizing SF6 was developed by the Bureau of Mines to make face measurements in underground coal mines (Timko and Thimons, 1982). When measuring the effectiveness of jet fans in dead headings SF6 was proven more effective than smoke tubes (Timko and Thimons, 1982). Experiments related to determining methane liberation in the gob were also conducted by injecting SF6 into a borehole (Timko and Thimons, 1982). Also, in an emergency situation where the gob had to be sealed due to a fire, SF6 was released to determine the effectiveness of the seals (Timko and Thimons, 1982).

As superligas de níquel apresentam boa combinação de resistência à corrosão e à oxidação, resistência mecânica, resistência à fadiga e à fluência, além de conseguirem operar em temperaturas elevadas, mantendo tais propriedades. A liga Inconel 625 vem sendo estudada como revestimentos, obtidos por cladeamento ou aspersão térmica, para tubos de aços ao carbono utilizados nas indústrias de petróleo e gás. Esses tubos poderão ser unidos pela técnica de soldagem, quando então se obtém uma junta Inconel-Inconel, e isso pode acarretar modificações nas propriedades dessas superligas. O presente trabalho objetiva obter uma junta soldada da liga Inconel 625 empregandose o processo de soldagem a arco utilizando eletrodo revestido Ni-Cr-Mo 3 e caracterizar o cordão de solda quanto à microestrutura, à dureza e à corrosão. A microestrutura foi avaliada por microscopia óptica; para dureza foi realizado perfil de microdureza Vickers ao longo da junta soldada; quanto à corrosão foram realizadas curvas potenciodinâmicas em três diferentes soluções: 3,5% NaCl, 3,5% NaCl + 0,01M Na2S2O3 e 3,5% NaCl + 1N H2SO4. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que a zona fundida tem microestrutura dendrítica, sendo a zona afetada pelo calor de aproximadamente 1,2 mm de extensão. A solda não alterou significativamente as propriedades de corrosão e dureza.

We had a cold, gray winter here in Kansas City and I spent a lot of time watching out my den window at the squirrels and birds trying to get by in the lousy weather. I remember too well working in the cold, loading shots. I was frostbitten several times since I couldn’t tie in MS connectors with gloves on. Those old connectors had a piece of detonating cord on either end of a metal tube that held the delay and you tied them to the trunk lines with square knots. Doing this on a “warm” day in Alaska or Montana shooting ditch for a pipeline could be a frosty experience. Also remember how hard it was to connect up electric caps (detonators to you new guys) in the cold. Now I don’t want you to feel sorry for me ‘cause I suspect most of you younger fellows have also paid your dues in the cold and for that matter in the heat too. Wowee, the heat at the bottom of a Chicago dolomite quarry in August was enough to fry the brains of all that were there. Maybe that’s why the third deck of my brains doesn’t exist.

O presente trabalho foi realizado com a finalidade de estudar o efeito dos elementos titânio (teor de 0,05%) e de níquel (teor de 0,03%) na liga Al-0,05%Cu-[0,24-0,28] %Fe-0,7%Si para fins de transmissão e distribuição de energia elétrica. Dessa forma, foi adotada uma sequência operacional a fim de caracterizar as estruturas apresentadas pelas ligas. Os processos de solidificação foram realizados via coquilha de aço (forma de “U”). Depois de solidificadas as ligas, os lingotes passaram pelos processos mecânicos de usinagem e laminação para obtenção de corpos de prova com quatro distintos diâmetros (2,7; 3,0; 3,8; 4,0) mm a fim de aproximar estes das bitolas utilizadas em indústrias de cabos elétricos. Todas as ligas foram caracterizadas macroestruturalmente analisando as estruturas brutas de fusão, eletromecanicamente por meio do ensaio de tração [?] e condutividade elétrica [%IACS]. Posteriormente, para a melhor compreensão dos resultados foram avaliados os valores de alongamento [?%] indicando que o diâmetro 3,00mm é a modificação com 0,05%Ti foram os de melhor resultados apresentados.

They are applicable for turbine blades in aircraft engines and stationary gas turbines [3,4].In recent years, the methods of powder synthesis have been widely discussed. There are many methods to synthesis intermetallic compounds such as conventional melting and solidification [5], powder metallurgy [6,7], reaction sintering [8] and reaction sintering with prior mechanical activation [9,10]. There is a prominent weakness in such methods that they use metal to produce intermetallic compounds by the means of diffusion reaction. Although the metal can diffusion sufficiently, it is still hard to avoid maldistribution of the constituents which impairs the properties of the materials."

"Microwave-hydrothermal processing is a novel technique which combines the conventional hydrothermal processing with microwave field and we previously showed for the first time, that ceramic powders can be rapidly produced by this technique. This review paper deals with the synthesis of unary oxides such as Fe203, Ti02, Zr02, etc., binary oxides such as BaTiO3, SrTiO 3, PbTiO 3, SrZrO 3, KNbO3, etc., and ternary oxides such as NaTi2 (PO4)3 and pyrochlore phases of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3, Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 etc. and metal powders such as Cu, Ni, etc. below 195°C. This method can be adopted to the synthesis of a large variety of powders by the appropriate control of pH, Eh, temperature/pressure and concentration of chemical species. The main advantages of this method compared to conventional hydrothermal processing are (a) it increases the kinetics of reaction by one to two orders of magnitude, and (b) it can lead to novel phases especially those with layered structures.IntroductionConventional hydrothermal processing is a well-established synthesis technique which has been extensively used in the preparation of fine ceramic powders [1-5], large single crystals [6-8] and massive cement blocks [9]. Technologically important ceramic powders such as BaTiO 3, Al203 etc. made by the hydrothermal process are now commercially available. Although there are numerous methods for materials synthesis, hydrothermal method is truly a low temperature and environmentally benign process. For example, ZrSi04 (Zircon) which is extensively used in ceramic industry can be prepared hydrothermally at 150·C [10] compared to sol-gel or solid-state method [11,12] which require a temperature of about 1000·C. The hydrothermal method is environmentally benign because hydrothermal reactions are carried out in closed systems at low temperatures and the contents can be recovered and recycled after cooling to the ambient conditions. One of the disadvantages with any low temperature processing method is slow kinetics. For this reason we have combined the hydrothermal method with microwaves to enhance kinetics and we named this method as ""Microwave-hydrothermal"" processing [13- 16]. Although the combination of microwave and hydrothermal techniques has been used in the past few years to dissolve all kinds of inorganic (e.g. alumino silicate rocks) and organic materials rapidly for chemical analysis, we were the first to show its potential value for the synthesis of various ceramic powders [13-16]. In this paper, I show that this novel method is applicable to the synthesis of all unary, binary and multinary oxides by the appropriate control of pH, Eh, temperature, pressure and concentration of chemical species. In addition, this method is also found to be useful for the preparation of metal powders."

Selected samples of hydrided Zr-Hf alloys were rapidly quenched to voom temperature and exrtrnined metallographically, by X-ray diffraction, and through micro hardness studies to confirm high-temperutuve data Confirming experiments sllowed that there were five phases in this Lernary system: 1) hextrgonal with lattice parameters similar to that of the initia1 Zr-Hf alloy but slightly enlarged due to dissolved hydrogen; 2) fee with properties of a brittle, intermediate, hydride compound; 3) fct with c/a crvoltnd 1.07 and which appeared as a neetilelike precipitale; 4) hexagonal, designated ?, with c/a ratio of 2.37; and 5) orthorhombic, designated X, with a = 4.67, b = 4.49, and c = 5.093 and whose tnicro-st?ruct~ival nppetrl-nnce depcncled o/i, heat lvecrt~r~ent. The tetragonrrl phase never crppeal-erl witkorct the cubic hydricle. Abpecrrtrnce of 0 and A also tlependet on the hafnium content of the zirconium. A previous paper&apos; on the Zr-Hf-H system described the thermochemical data obtained with a high-vacuum, high-sensitivity mirrogravimetric apparatus. This data presented a fairly complete picture of the phase relationships at elevated temperatures. However, it could not establish the actual crystal structures, lattice parameters, or metallographic disposition of the hydride phases. The present complementary study utilizes X-ray powder patterns along with light and electron microscopy to characterize completely the five hydrided phases found in Zr-Hf-H alloys quenched to room temperature. Crystallographic features of the zr-Hf,2,4 zr-H,5-7 and Hf-H8 systems have been summarized in Table I. Designations of a, ß, and ? were retained in the Zr-Hf-H system for the phase regions through which the pressure-composition isotherms always sloped. However, it was not firmly agreed that these were single-phase regions.&apos; In fact, the region designated y always contained a cubic as well as a tetragonal phase after quenching to -196°C. MATERIALS Preparation of the high-purity Zr-Hf alloys has been described.&apos; The four zirconium alloys which were hydrided contained 37 wt pct Hf (23 at. pct), 51 wt pct Hf (37 at. pct), 73 wt pct Hf (58 at. pct), and 91 wt pct Hf (82 at. pct), respectively. These were designated B-2, B-4, B-6, and B-8. Photomicrographs of the initial alloys showed the material to be quite clean as would be expected from the precautions exercised in producing them. However, there were a number of annealing twins but no other subgrain structure. In addition to the four original alloys, fifteen hydrided samples were observed at room temperature. Hydrogen compositions are given at the top of Tables I1 to V. APPARATUS The phases present at elevated temperatures were studied by quenching hydrided samples to room temperature by two different methods, both under vacuum: 1) fast cooling of the sample tubes of the microgravimetric apparatus1&apos;9 with flowing air and 2) rapid quenching into liquid nitrogen. The cooling rate for 1) was 750° to 250°C in 30 sec. Since the microbalance chamber was not designed to permit very rapid cooling of a hydride sample, all liquid-nitrogen quenching was done in an auxiliary experiment. The auxiliary quenching apparatus consisted of a small-bore, high-temperature furnace, a sealed SiO2 tube containing the sample, and a dewar quenching flask filled with liquid nitrogen. The hydrided sample, previously quenched in the microgravimetric reaction chamber, was placed in a platinum boat in a vacuum-degassed SiO2 tube. A zirconium wire getter and degassed SiO2 rod, to reduce the internal volume, were also in the tube. After sealing the tube under vacuum the zirconium getter was heated to absorb the last traces of gas. Only the sample was heated at the reaction temperature for the desired length of time, and then the tube dropped through the opposite end of the furnace into the dewar. A quenching rate of 200" to 400° C per sec was estimated. Analyses of samples after the auxiliary experiment also showed practically no increase in oxygen or nitrogen content from heating in the SiO2 tube. All of the samples were examined at room temperature by the X-ray powder method. The majority of the powder patterns were obtained with double nickel-filtered CuKa radiation after 8- and 16-hr exposures in an 11.48-cm-diam camera. Cobalt and chromium radiation were also used to spread out the high d value end of the Pattern. Such patterns readily identified the minor phases. NO oxide or nitride lines were found. As soldas dissimilares de liga de níquel 182 são utilizadas em usinas nucleares para conectar tubulações de aço inoxidável com componentes fabricados em aço de baixa liga. O procedimento envolvido na soldagem dissimilar pode modificar as propriedades do material, o que afeta diretamente a junta soldada no sentido de aumento da probabilidade de incidência do processo de corrosão. Neste trabalho foi realizado a soldagem dissimilar de corpos de prova dos aços de baixa liga e aço inoxidável austenítico AISI 316L com as ligas de níquel 82 e 182. Estudou-se o comportamento frente à corrosão da junta de solda de liga 182 em ambientes ácidos contendo NaCl e Na2S2O3 empregando-se técnicas eletroquímicas. Ensaios de polarização anódica potenciodinâmica foram utilizados para caracterizar o comportamento de corrosão localizada do material. Os resultados mostraram que o comportamento eletroquímico da junta de solda está relacionado com o aporte térmico e a presença ou não de oxigênio no meio.

A indústria mineral brasileira é uma das maiores produtoras de minério de ferro do mundo e as reservas do país estão cada vez com teores mais baixos. Por isso hoje são necessários estudos para viabilizar a explotação de jazidas de baixos teores. Utilizando-se de minérios mais pobres, faz-se necessário uma maior cominuição para beneficiamento do minério. Com uma menor granulometria do material, o processo de flotação passa a ter importante papel no beneficiamento por ser mais tolerável aos finos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi testar diferentes coletores catiônicos, especificamente aminas, utilizados na etapa de flotação reversa de um minério de ferro da região do Vale do Rio Pardo. As amostras utilizadas nos testes são provenientes da remoagem que, pelo circuito de beneficiamento, alimenta a flotação de finos. Foram testados como coletores as aminas EDA, EDA3 e EDA 3C da Clariant. A amina que obteve melhor desempenho foi a Flotigam EDA 3C que obteve concentrado final com 67,4% Fe e 1,76% de SiO2, e recuperação metalúrgica de ferro de 92,14%.

The basic work conducted by Prof. A.Yazawa has demonstrated that in order to ensure single-stage white metal production by autogenous smelting of copper sulfide raw materials, it is most favorable to use highly basic slags, in particular oxide systems CaO-FeO-Fe2O3-Sio2. he special studies have been conducted in the Gintsvetmet Institute to investigate the composition and structure of slags produced on a semi-commercial scale when testing the KFP and FBP processes for white metal smelting, as well as the slag obtained in a full-scale KFP furnace at the Almalyk copper smelter. The investigations conducted have demonstrated why production of high-grade matte or white metal is associated with lower loss of copper in slag in a series: silicate slag I silicate-calcium slag I ferrite-calcium slag.

"The present research work is aimed to focus on the development of chemically stable light weight microporous carbonaceous material, such as activated charcoal incorporated either with titanium n-butoxide, titanium diisopropoxide bis(2,4-pentanedionate), vanadium 2,4-pentane-dionate or zinc 2,4-pentanedionate having varying wt% of the metal (2-8%) using ethanol as solvent at 40--50 oC followed by calcinations at 100, 150 and 200 cC, except the samples with titanium diisopropoxide bis(2,4-pentanedionate) which are calcinated at 80 oC. Atomic absorption studies along with FESEM revealed that the maximum incorporation of metals (Zn, V and Ti) in activated charcoal was observed with 4 wt% of zinc 2,4-pentanedionate calcinated at 150 oC , 4 wt% of vanadium 2,4-pentanedionate at 100 oC, 2 wt% of titanium n-butoxide at 100 oC and 2 wt% of titanium diisopropoxide bis(2,4-pentanedionate) at 80 oC, and equilibration time of 20-24 h was used in each case. Hydrogen sorption behavior in these carbonaceous materials has also been studied at 77.4 K and low pressure up to I bar. The highest hydrogen uptake obtained was 1.45 wt% (164.5 cm3 (STP)/g at P/Po = 1.0) for activated charcoal incorporated with 4 wt% of zinc 2,4-pentanedionate calcinated at 150 oC.IntroductionTwo of the major challenges for humanity in the next twenty years are the shrinking availability of fossil fuels, the global warming and potential climate changes that result from their ever-increasing use. So it is necessary to fmd an energy source that is convenient, flexible and controllable. One possible solution to these problems is to use an energy carrier such as hydrogen, and ways to produce and store hydrogen in electric power plants and vehicles. Hydrogen storage is the bottleneck for the breakthrough of hydrogen as energy carrier in automotive applications [1]."
