This paper deals with some innovations and current proposals for the treatment of gold ores and considers the possibilities of incorporating new developments in new or revised ore treatment flowsheets. The main topics considered are I. typical practice in relation to the size of gold particles, 2. concentration of coarse gold, 3. leaching reagents, 4. in situ leaching, 5. heap leaching, 6. carbon-in-pulp adsorption, and 7. treatment of complex ores (gold in pyrite, gold tellurides, and carbon-containing ores).

"The effect of thermomechanical processing (TMP) including cold working by tension or rolling before aging on mechanical properties and a dispersion of secondary phase particles of an AA2519 alloy (Al–5.64Cu–0.33Mn–0.23Mg–0.15Zr–0.11Ti–0.09V–0.08Fe–0.01Si (wt. %)) was examined. It was shown that the use of tension to impart pre-strain =10% in the alloy provides the best combination of properties in peak aging condition of the material. The AA2519T87 alloy processed by tension exhibits the yield stress, ultimate tensile strength and elongation to failure of 425.4±2.4, 475±2.4, 12.1±0.4, respectively. The one pass rolling leads to -5% decreases in yield stress and –20% decreases in ductility. Dislocations serve as heterogeneous nucleation sites for ?'-phase precipitation. The positive effect of tension is attributed to the formation of more homogeneous dislocation structure, uniform distribution of ?'-phase particles with higher aspect ratio. Precipitation of the O–phase plates on {111}a habit plane was detected. In addition it was shown that the low angle boundaries are heterogeneous nucleation sites for ?' and O particles.INTRODUCTION Precipitation-hardened alloys are a commercially important group of the materials because their mechanical properties can be modified by treating and changing the microstructure. Age-hardenable aluminum alloys belonging to the Al–Cu–Mg system are widely used due to their attractive combination of high specific strength, good fracture toughness and enhanced creep resistance attributed to the highly efficient strengthening by the ?'-phase (Palmer, StJohn, Nie, & Qian, 2017). An AA2519 alloy exhibiting superior mechanical properties among high-strength Al–Cu alloys (2XXX-serie) due to minor Mg additives. It is known that, in alloys with high Cu/Mg ratio (=5.6) the classic precipitation sequence (Palmer et al., 2017; Wang & Starink, 2005; Wang et al., 2010) of supersaturated solid solution (SSSS) decomposition occurs: SSSS ? Laboratory bath smelting tests were conducted to determine the feasibility of smelting nickel- copper concentrate directly to a low iron matte in one step. Concentrate, air/oxygen and a silica flux were fed to a matte-slag bath kept in MgO crucibles at I 300°C. Various oxygen enrichments and smelting rates were used to maintain 0.5 to 2 wt% iron in the product matte. The slag losses are comparable to those obtained under similar industrial conditions. Due to the highly oxidizing conditions required to produce mattes with low iron contents, it is not recommended to target iron contents below about 2% in the matte. The specific bath smelting rates were equal to or higher than those in various industrial bath smelting processes.

The use of gold compounds in homogeneous catalysed organic reactions has been undervalued for many years due to the preconceived opinion that gold is an expensive and extremely chemically inert metal. However, recent reports have changed this assessment and gold salts in small amounts are known to display high catalytic activity.[1] Thus, it has been reported recently that anhydrous AuCl3 catalyses the formation of C-C and C-O bonds (usually mediated by hydrochloric and other protonic and Lewis acids).[2] Some examples include Michael type additions, selective cross cycloisomerisation/dimerisation of propargyl or allenyl ketones, benzannulation between o-alkynylbenzaldehides and alkynes or cyclisation of alkenyl furans. It is noteworthy that some of these reactions[2a] can be also catalysed by silver salts but with much lower yields. The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrones to alkenes is a powerful synthetic method that has found numerous applications in the synthesis of a variety of carbon frameworks.[3] Several laboratories have focused on the development of Lewis acidic reagents to modulate the selectivity of the reaction.[4] Despite the extensive study performed, there are not many examples in which a metallic complex catalyses the dipolar cycloaddition. Most of these reactions require the presence of a metallic complex and nitrone in a 1:1 molar ratio. Recently, we have carried out stoichiometric reactions of the N-benzil-C(2-pyridil)nitrone, 1, with different dipolarophiles in the presence of zinc and silver compounds.[5] Apart from an increase of the reaction rate and the selective formation of one of the possible isomers, we have shown the formation of zinc and silver-nitrone complexes during the reaction, which behave as the intermediates in the cycloaddition process. As suggested by the results obtained with silver complexes, we decided to test gold derivatives (in the oxidation states of I and III). Interestingly, we have found that they can be used not only as stoichiometric reagents but they can also mediate these cycloadditions in catalytic amounts (5 to 10 mol % respect to the nitrone). Here we present the results on the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of the N-benzil-C(2-pyridil)nitrone (2-PyBN), 1, and methylacrilate, 2, (Eq. 1) catalysed by gold(III) derivatives.

A liga de alumínio AA 7075 recebida no estado T6 (conformada e envelhecida artificialmente) sofreu tratamento térmico a 300°C com o objetivo de causar o engrossamento das partículas de MgZn2, intermetálico responsável pelo endurecimento do material. As amostras foram então deformadas 45% em redução de espessura por laminação e recozidas isotermicamente a 200°C e a 250°C por tempos variados para estudar a cinética de amolecimento por meio de medidas de dureza Vickers. Os resultados indicam que a cinética de amolecimento em ambas as temperaturas de recozimento aproxima-se do comportamento previsto pelo modelo Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) com boa concordância (coeficientes de correlação de 0,9725 e 0,9140 a 200°C e a 250°C, respectivamente), ainda que as micrografias ópticas da amostra recozida a 300°C por 4 horas não evidenciem a ocorrência de recristalização.

In October, 1891,I read a paper before the Institute on a "A HandTelescope for Stadia-Work" (Bans., xx., 732), and promised to report at an early date some results showing the degree of accuracy attained with the instrument. I am now able to report on these results and also on certain improvements that I have made in the target since the first paper was read. I may say that I prefer the title, "Prismatic Stadia-Telescope," to that used in my earlier paper, for while the instrument can be used with perfect satisfaction for short sights up to, say, 300 to 600 feet when held in the hand, it is impossible to read milch longer distances without the use of a tripod, as a steady support for the instrument. Results are here given upon four combinations of prism and telescope. No. 1. Aços inoxidáveis supermartensíticos (AISM) são aços de matriz martensítica contendo baixos teores de carbono, abaixo de 0,03%. Eles vêm sendo utilizados na indústria de óleo e gás para aplicações específicas que exigem resistência mecânica aliada a moderada resistência à corrosão. Após serem temperados para a obtenção da estrutura martensítica, esses aços são submetidos a tratamento de revenimento para alívio de tensões e melhoria das propriedades de tenacidade e ductilidade. Durante o revenimento é esperada a ocorrência de mudanças microestruturais resultantes principalmente da precipitação de diferentes fases. Tais precipitados influenciam tanto as propriedades mecânicas finais quanto a resistência à corrosão desses aços. Nesta pesquisa foi avaliada a resistência à corrosão por pite de dois AISM do tipo 13Cr5Ni2Mo, um deles contendo Nb (0,11%), através de ensaios de polarização potenciodinâmica em soluções de 0,6M NaCl sem e com adições de 0,3M e 0,6M Na2SO4. Os resultados mostraram que a adição de Na2SO4 no eletrólito contendo NaCl inibe consideravelmente a corrosão por pite. Foi constatado também que o AISM contendo Nb apresenta maior resistência à corrosão por pite nos eletrólitos de misturas de cloreto e sulfato. Além disso, os resultados mostraram que o revenimento a 575°C melhora a resistência à corrosão por pite, comparativamente ao revenimento a 600°C. O melhor potencial de pite foi obtido para o aço ao Nb, revenido a 575°C por 2h, em eletrólito 0,6Na2SO4+0,6NaCl.

A escória utilizada no refino secundário deve possuir propriedades adequadas para que auxilie no controle inclusionário dos aços. Tendo isto em vista, há vários parâmetros que devem ser levados em conta para se obter uma escória ótima que irá auxiliar na limpeza dos aços. Como uma técnica de medição, o valor de oxigênio total no banho está diretamente relacionado com o número de inclusões óxidas presentes no aço líquido. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo geral o acompanhamento da limpeza inclusionária por meio dos teores de oxigênio total presentes nos aços, para variáveis selecionadas de escória e de processo. A partir das análises químicas de amostras de um aço alto carbono acalmado ao alumínio, foram gerados gráficos com os valores de oxigênio total em função dos parâmetros %CaO/%Al2O3, %FeO+%MnO, basicidade binária, tempo de flotação na torre do lingotamento contínuo e pick-up de nitrogênio; seguido da análise dos resultados obtidos e sua comparação com os dados da literatura. Pode-se então concluir que, para as análises anteriormente citadas, o aço apresentou resultados coerentes com a literatura para todas as análises.

In 1945, the output totaled 4,658,000 bbl., a decrease of slightly more, than one per cent from the 1944 production. This total represents 2 per cent of the stripper-well production of the United States, which in turn is I 3 per cent of the total annual yield of the nation's petroleum.

Sintering-pot tests and metallurgical performances of sinter with 4 kind of different Al2O3 contents are experimented in this paper. Results show: when the Al2O3 contents increase from 2.0% to 3.5%, acicular calcium ferrites in mine phase will be gradually replaced by plate-like iron calcium. The increase of Al2O3 contents will lead to the addition of liquid viscosity and the reduction of permeability of sinter bed. Sintering time will be prolonged. The rate of yield is stable basically but production is low; besides, the increase of liquid viscosity will decrease of drum strength. The change of permeability of the material layer will make RDI +3.15 decrease first and then increase when Al2O3 contents changed from 2.0% to 3.5%. RI of sinter shows a contrary trend because many open voids are formed by deterioration of liquidity first and then pores closed.

The investigations of the Leningrad ruining lilstitute on this problem are carrying out in the following main directions: 1) The analysis and study of contaminants migration at particular sites of mining development; 2) The working out of theoretical and me- thodical basic principles of aquifers migration tests; 3) The work- ing out of methods of the forcasting of groundwater pollution pro- cesses; 4) The theoretical and uethodical substantiation of hydro- geological observations of groundwater pollution processes; 5) The wort ing out of the measures at the groundwater control and their rational use at the particular sites of mining development. The research that have been carried out by the present moment have covered the wide range of wining and geological conditions -- as from the point of view of specific genetic types of water-be- aring rocks (porous, fissured and fissured-porous), as well as from the point of view of pollution sources (surface waste water basins and underground basins of non-standard water) and the cha- racter of the latter's migration (tracers, physically neutral ef- fluents, heavy or light ones). The combination of specialized mi- gration tests and observations carryed out at uoayi, sites, as well as the following ar~,alysis o:i the data of field study allowed to get useful theoretical, methodical and practical results on the all directions above mentioned, ns the summing up of these results the author proposed the concept of controlled ground :ester polluti on. "In order to remodel an existing beach resort on the Gulf of Mexico, an existing three story structure, founded on stepped tapered piles, was to be replaced by a ten-story building with service rooms on a daylight basement level, conference rooms on the next levels and up-scale hotel rooms on the upper levels. The new building was founded on augered-cast-in-place (ACIP) piles. The pile caps and the basement required excavations between nine and fifteen feet (three to five meters) below ground surface.BAUER Foundations Corp. (BFC) successfully used Cutter Soil Mixing (CSM) to install the support of excavation walls. This technique allowed for the adjustment of the wall alignment during execution in order to avoid existing and new piles and other underground obstructions. Nearly 1600 – 16-inch (400 mm diameter) ACIP piles were installed to an average depth of 71.5 feet (22m) below ground surface (BGS) by BFC to support the new hotel structure. Initial grout overages in piles were excessively high and ground stability issues were encountered in some pile locations. By identifying specific areas of concern BFC was able to modify the approach to ACIP installation, effectively mitigating the ongoing risks and successfully completed the project.PROJECTMarriott Hotels began the $300 million renovation and upgrade of their Marco Island Marriott Beach Club Hotel in Marco Island, FL to JW Marriott status in May 2015. The renovation included the demolition of a portion of their existing hotel tower, and the construction of a new 10-story hotel tower consisting of 94 new guest rooms and a 10,000 SF (900 m2) ballroom, among other amenities. As is typical with hotel construction, time was of the essence. The schedule was the driving factor of this project as the owner had already booked events in their new ballroom starting in January of 2017.BFC provided the client with a deep foundation package that included the installation of 1562 Augered Cast-In-Place (ACIP) piles supporting the new tower, and the design and construction of approximately 36,500 SF (3,400 m2) of soil-mixed retaining wall for support of excavation (SoE)."

"The innovative development of multiphase slag in hot-metal treatment has attracted considerable attention due to the reduction of CaO consumption and minimal environmental emission. In order to improve the efficiency of dephosphorization and to reutilize the waste-slag as an alternative source of phosphate ores, it is important to increase the distribution ratio of P2Os between the solid solution (2CaO· SiO2-3CaO· P2O 5) and liquid slag. An investigation was carried out to study the effects ofNa2O and B2O3 on the distribution ratio of P2Os, the results indicated that the increase ofNa2O would enhance the distribution ratio of P2Os with the formation of solid solution (2CaO·SiO2-Na2O·2CaO·P2Os), while B2O3 has the opposite function, and changes the morphology of solid solution. The study would provide an instructive way for the design of multiphase slag and re-utilization of waste-slag.IntroductionIn order to meet the increasing demand for high quality low-phosphorus steel, it requires a high efficient hot metal dephosphorization process. The current slag system for hot metal treatment contains large amount of solid CaO dispersed in liquid slag, which introduced a large amount of CaO consumption due to its low solubility, especially when CaF2 was restricted due to the environmental concerns. Therefore, new refming method to improve the utilization efficiency of CaO by using a solid/liquid coexisting multiphase slag was proposed, and the studies regarding to solid solution formation mechanism, mass transfer behavior of phosphorus and the phase relationship for multi-phase slag have been conducted. [1-6]Normally, hot metal dephosphorization slag consists of CaO--SiOz-FeO--P2O 5, and it has been approved that 2CaO·SiO2 forms a solid solution with 3CaO·P2Os at the hot metal treatment temperature over a wide range of compositions. [7] Kitamura et al [8] pointed out that the (2CaO·SiO2-3CaO·P2O 5) solid solution plays an important role in dephosphorization, and it has been regarded as an absorbents for phosphorus to lower the phosphorus content in liquid phase, which makes it more capable for future dephosphorization. l Besides, the multiphase slag has the potential to be recycled as a source of phosphorus, if the (2CaO· SiO2-3CaO· P2O 5) solid solution could contain high phosphorus content, and it can be separated from FeiO matrix 8hase due to the large difference of their magnetic properties under the strong magnetic field. The current study examines the extraction of rare-earth elements from trichromatic phosphor of discarded tube lights via baking processes. The Y2O3: Eu3+ (YOX) and BaMgAl10O17: Eu2+ (BAM) phases completely decomposed during acid and alkali baking with > 90% Eu and Y extraction. Prior, selective acid leaching of the YOX phase enhanced the acid baking process at a lower temperature (< 230 ℃). Feed acid baking showed a maximum 87% Tb, 36% La, and 17% Ce extraction at 500 °C, 0.5 h, 1 ml/g H2SO4, and alkali baking yielded 16.1% Tb, 86% La, and 73% Ce at 300 ℃, 0.5 h, 50 wt.% NaOH. The acid baking of the acid-leached phosphor yielded 72% Tb, 95% La, 63% Ce, ~ 95% Y, and Eu extraction at 300 °C, 0.5 h, 1.05 mL/g H2SO4. Lower Tb extraction during the acid baking of acid-leached phosphor can be attributed to the formation of Ba3Tb( PO4)3 and BaTbO3 phases. Insoluble Si3Tb5 phase formation and partial decomposition of CeMgAl11O19: Tb3+ (CMAT) phase in the alkali baking route leads to lower Tb extraction. The acid baking process is suitable for extracting Tb, Eu, and Y, whereas the alkali baking process is suitable for La and Ce. The thermal analysis of phosphor and flux interaction depicts that alkali baking is less energy-intensive than acid baking. In comparison, the one-step acid baking process and the two-step alkali baking process yielded desirable extraction results (87% Tb, total RE (rare earth) 78.5% and 50.4% Tb, total RE 59.3%). The product yield in the acid and alkali baking route of feed, acid-leach phosphor is 36%, 29%, and 39%, 28.2%, respectively, with ~ 98% mixed rare-earth oxide purity.

Currently he is president of KD Engineering and Metcon Research. He had it lucky when he went to school because there were only 44 elements in the periodic table, I understand. [laughter] Here&apos;s Joe. JOE KEANE: I&apos;m doing this under protest. Maybe we can start the slides. Mr. Halbe gave me this topic, but I don&apos;t like it. I don&apos;t like Mr. Halbe either [laughter] because of the way he shanghaied me into this. He called me up on the phone and said this is what you&apos;re going to speak about: "Five Things I Never Want to See Again in Plant Design," and I said, "Huh!" Then I started getting stuff from SME about how to make a presentation. I have decided to change the title to "More Than Five Things I Never Want to See in Plant Design," since you can&apos;t have a completely negative speech; you have to have other topics. So we will have some other, not completely nonrelated, topics to sort of break the tension. I tried to find a joke to open with. I talked to Omar Mutati. All of his jokes were either about Bill Clinton, our beloved President, or they were too filthy to say in a mixed group. [laughter] So I decided to start this out with a profound statement. The pro- found statement is, "The meek shall inherit the earth, but not the mineral rights," [laughter] by J. Paul Getty. J. Paul Getty was one of my favorite guys because when a real obnoxious reporter asked him one day, "How can I become wealthy?" he said, "Drill for oil and find it."

A method for the clarification of uranium pregnant solutions using a high-rate floc blanket was developed from laboratory scale through pilot-plant testing to full-scale production by the Anglo American Research laboratories. A two-stage clarification process (hopper plus leaf) was commissioned at the Western Deep levels uranium plant in October 1980. The high efficiency of the hopper clarification permitted its use on its own. The leaf clarifiers were therefore taken out of service in September 1981, since when the secondary clarification is achieved by further unaided gravity settling in the semi-clarified and clarified pregnant-solution storage tanks. As a result, a daily 12000 to 17000 t of countercurrent-decantation overflow with a suspended-solids concentration of 500 to 600 mg/I is continuously clarified to a suspended-solids concentration of less than 30 mg/I. Secondary gravity settling reduces the suspendedsolids concentration to under 20 mg/I. The cost of the single-stage hopper-clarification process is RO,O020per ton of liquid treated. The removal of the leaf clarifiers from the circuit resulted in an approximate visible saving of RI00000 per annum.

Waterflooding operations in the Langston-Kleiner field. Young County, Tex., are described. Widespread application of formation fracturing has been practiced in both producing and injection wells. Field performance data arc cited which indicate than no detrimental effect on sweep efficiencies and that probable benefits in imectivily have resulted from the fracture treatments. I N T R O D U C I O N This paper is a report on a waterflood operation which is being carried out in the Lanpston-Kleiner field located in Young County, Tex. The oil reservoir aflected by this flood operation occurs in a Strawn sand member at an approximate depth of 3.550 ft subsurl&apos;ace. The operators of&apos; the project are Kleiner Estate. Turncr. Fiske. and West who are hereinafter collectively referred to as the Operators. Although the operation is unusual in several respects, the distinctive feature of this flood has been the widespread application of hydraulic formation fracturing treatments as a means to improve productivity and injectivity of the wells. It shall he the purpose of this paper to present basic information regarding the reservoir characteristics. op- craling practices, and waterflood behavior so that conclusions may be drawn concerning the effects which the fracture treatments have had on the performance of this water flood to datc. DEVELOP MENT Development of the 3,550 ft Strawn sand reservoir occurred during 1951 and 1952. The early development occurred on the Langston and Davis leases which arc in the northern region of the Operators&apos; holdings and the wells were drilled on 20-acre proration units according to the field rules. However, studies of the economics of this program. coupled with the decision to proceed with pressure maintenance by water injection. resulted in the adoption of wider spacing in the later stages of development. This variation in spacing is apparent upon inspection of Fig. I upon which only the 3,550-ft Strawn sand producing and injection wells have been located on the Operators&apos; properties. The development to the north of the operators leases is Ihe Garvey Strawn field and that to the south is the Taylor Strawn field. It wits determined that unitization of the leases to he involved in the waterflood program was not feasihle. Consequently. a system of offset injection wells, or lease line injection wells, was adopted from place to place as required to protect correlative rights in the program. This resulted in a dispersed array of injection and producing wells with relatively close proximity of wells along lease line areas and wider spacing toward

A concepção de desenvolvimento sustentável tem resultado no aumento de pressões ambientais para a melhoria da eficiência na utilização de recursos, e para a significativa redução das emissões e da geração de resíduos. No processo de fabricação de aço nas siderúrgicas com fornos elétricos a arco ocorre a geração do resíduo sólido denominado pó de aciaria elétrica (PAE). O PAE é constituído por diferentes óxidos metálicos. Contém cromo, chumbo e cádmio e, por isso, é classificado como resíduo classe I – Perigoso pela NBR 10004 [1]. Gerado em grandes quantidades diariamente em todo o país, o PAE é disposto principalmente em aterros industriais. A indústria da construção civil, devido a quantidade de matérias-primas consumida e variedade de produtos disponíveis – cimento, concreto, agregado, cerâmica, entre outros, apresenta-se como alternativa para a reciclagem de resíduos gerados em outros setores da econômica. Estudos indicam o potencial uso do PAE na produção de materiais da construção civil, tais como cimento e concreto. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma revisão da literatura sobre a viabilidade técnica da adição do PAE ao cimento como alternativa de valorização desse resíduo. Os estudos sugerem que em quantidades próximas a 1%, a adição de PAE não afeta de forma significativa as propriedades do cimento.

The electrolyte with high solubility for Sc2O3 is very important to realize the preparation of Al-Sc master alloy by the molten salt electrolysis. The solubility of Sc2O3 in K3AlF6- Na3AlF6-AlF3 melts is determined with an isothermal saturation method. The effects of KR (ratio of K3AlF6 to K3AlF6+Na3AlF6), the concentration of Al2O3 and the temperature on the solubility of Sc2O3 are also investigated. The results indicate that the solubility of Sc2O3 in K3AlF6-Na3AlF6-AlF3 melts increases and then decreases with KR increasing. The solubility of Sc2O3 is 8.698 wt.% in (K3AlF6-Na3AlF6)(KR25%)-18 wt.%AlF3 melts at 940℃. The effect of temperature on the solubility is little, and the values are 8.575 wt.% and 8.762 wt.% respectively when the temperatures are 930℃ and 960℃. The solubility decreases from 8.809 wt.% to 7.058 wt.% as the concentration of Al2O3 increases from 1.5 wt.% to 5.0 wt.% at 950℃.

In this research, novel YSZ ceramics doped with 5 mol% Nd2O3 were manufactured via Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) process. The sintered Nd2O3-YSZ ceramics were subjected to a static supercritical water environment at a temperature and pressure of 400 °C and 31 MPa, respectively. The weight loss and microstructure development of the sintered ceramic before and after exposure to supercritical water was studied. The results suggested that Nd2O3 addition significantly improved the degradation resistance of the YSZ ceramics. This was attributed to the improved phase stability of the 5 mol% Nd2O3-YSZ ceramics, since X-ray Diffraction (XRD) studies showed that the cubic stabilized matrix in these ceramics was retained after exposure to supercritical water. In comparison, pure YSZ ceramics exhibited a rapid degradation behavior as well as a phase change.
