Abstract
This paper presents the basic theory of operation, physical chemistry and phase equilibria which allow the development of liquid-liquid extraction circuits based on metallic solvents. The incorporation of reduction and reduction/diffusion processes into the process 'scheme is discussed and a detailed description of ,several liquid-liquid extraction schemes are developed. A synopsis of experimental results obtained using this: method to separate rare earth and other metal based materials will be given.
