Abstract

Except for optical purposes and a few other special uses quartz and quartzite are to a considerable degree interchangeable. This also may be said with respect to pulverized quartz and ground silica sand, which are discussed in a separate paper of this series. All these materials, except perhaps quartz crystals of optical grade, are abundantly available in many parts of the United States.
