Abstract

The I-35 NEX project is a $1.6 billion design-build in northeast San Antonio in an area with known karst features. The project involves single-column, nonredundant, large diameter shafts that support an elevated highway. This case history describes the site reconnaissance, field investigation, design evaluations, and construction challenges.
